It was comparing their roles not the players as individuals.
IMO both are better utilised as finishers, but they don't play the same in that role.
Same could be applied to the likes of Walcott & Chicharito.
Just because you say they have the same or similar roles does not automatically means they play in the same system or execution of the role.
My understanding is that Podolski / Chicharito are best playing in space from behind a CF, whereas the likes of Aguero & Walcott are best playing into space ahead of a CF off the last defender = same roles as finishers but different styles & execution in different systems.
If Aguero offered enough in the build up then Guardiola would not be looking to replace him. He is a final 3rd player.
