He's obviously a very well connected guy. He's probably got dozens of agents, managers, sporting directors, board members etc. phone numbers on his phone. It's hardly much of an stretch to believe that one of his mates, as he said himself, is doing the deal for the player in question and that he thinks it's a big, exciting deal so wants to crow about it. He's not said anything specific or given anything away, just that it's big and it's close.
Why would he lie? What's the point?
