a few points:
- coq's statistics were better than matic's statistics, and everyone was creaming themselves over matic when he came back to chelsea.
- the role of the DM in our team is to break up play, prevent counter attacks, and start the ball moving forward
- coq's job is to collect the ball and pass it to the player closest to him, likely cazorla or ramsey, depending on how we line up. it isn't his job to play 40 yard crossfield passes. our game isn't built on those types of passes, but he has actually shown the ability to pick out a longer pass on occasion.

keep in mind that coq's numbers came in a much better league as well. they are similar players. why on earth would we waste £26m on kondogbia?
Because you can't really tell much off those statistics.
Some no-name called N'Golo Kante in Ligue 1 averages the most tackles in Europe I think, but it doesn't make him the best DM out there.
More tackes/interceptions = better player is not right. This isn't NFL where you can look at stats and straight away come to the conclusion who's the better player. You have to look at many variables such as team, team style, the player's role, etc.
On top of Kondogbia plays more of a B2B role for Monaco, so it's only natural that his numbers are lower. When he played against us at the Emirates in a reserved role his numbers were absolutely insane, so he can easily shield like Coq, if not better.
Tremendous talent imo, I believe he has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world, and he's streets ahead of Coq for my money.
