Will be finishing Breaking Bad this week finally! I'm about to watch the last 4 episodes which are supposed to be amazing. I can't believe i got so far without reading any spoilers anywhere.

Saw some clips from the Dr. Who Christmas special this evening- The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe.
Looks like proper Christmas Day telly 🙂

Anyone watch Homeland? I just watched the first three episodes; I generally like more serious spy stuff and it's interesting but it's pretty joyless too. Which I guess makes it more 'authentic', but it's heavy going.

Homeland is amazing but the finale was amazingly bad. I felt that it went against everything that was bold and attractive about the show. Not sure if I'm going to watch the second season.

we've been watching it after i DL'ed it based on a few people saying they really liked it.. have to say its a pretty decent show, but after watching things like 24 or Sleeper Cell or the myriad of other spy shows, this one doesnt move me as much as some of the others.. and Claire Danes is one of the most unlikeable main characters. i dont like her anyway, and her character is fairly unsympathetic to me.. i like Damian Lewis and Many Patinkin's characters more

Count on everything to get increasingly worse. The Shield is probably the most consistent show I've ever seen in that aspect. Shawn Ryan is a genius.

That's sort of the point with the character though, no? Brody isn't very likeable either. I thought it was a very bold move to make a show where the viewer can't really reconcile with either one of the two main characters. It's never been a prerequisition for me personally. It helps if the story has a point or the characters are well-written though, and I found Homeland to my liking in both aspects. Carrie is deeply flawed both professionally and personally, but I think Danes does a great job at portraying her. Especially when her bipolarity starts acting up towards the end. It should earn her an Emmy nomination at the very least.

i think Brody is more likeable than Carrie.. i just get tired of seeing drug addicted borderline sociopathic characters..

i suppose I just can't get past Claire Danes.. really dont like her, in anything i have ever seen her in..

Finished watching the last 4 episodes of Breaking Bad and wow that was a ride and a half. Walt really went wacko and Skylar, as always, is an idiot. Walt's character really changed, he went from an innocent old man to what he is now (no spoilers).

i dont think Skylar is an idiot.. although, i didnt like her at first, she grew on me in the last season or so...

She certainly has her own journey coming to grips with the choices she makes.

I read that they ended season 4 like they thought it was the ending of the whole series. They weren't sure about renewal but knew there was a possibility that it would be cancelled. The ending could've worked as THE final episode what with Walt's character turning into what it is and all other things tied up. Of course it's not ideal but it was a really good ending to the season.

The set in modern day Sherlock on BBC is excellent.
Very clever, witty and well cast.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too.

I saw the initial programs on a few months ago and watched them at the time. The newer brand hasn't disappointed, so I'll definitely have a look at the next one on Sunday.

It was great, the introduction of the deerstalker was a particular high point. I don't normally gauge good writing or acting very well but the whole thing was done so well particularly if you look out for references to the books.

The ending was a bit contrived imo.

That's true, relative to what preceded it the ending was weak.
He'd have had to have been more James Bond than Sherlock to have managed that.

I saw the Sherlock season two opener last night, and was impressed. Previously I've only seen the last half hour of season one, which wasn't really much to go on though it looked like a decent show.

Watching it, I wasn't clear on whether the ending was meant to be a fantasy. I suppose since Sherlock couldn't have known the details of how Mycroft was supposed to have disposed of her, it couldn't have been.

However, it was a great episode by the standards of any TV series. I like the longer format and the amount of incident they pack in. An equivalent HBO series would've made that a 3-4 episode arc with a lot of establishing filler.

The sly humour of the detection gimmicks is great as well. Like the two bags under Watson's eyes tagged "Night Out" and "With Stamford" 🙂
