I think the first season of Hannibal was effin brilliant myself. Can't wait for season 2.

Ha pretty much my thoughts on it. I found it very pretentious. Not overly keen on the Will character either which is a bit of a problem considering he probably has a bigger role than Hannibal himself.

That said I did stick with it and enjoyed the last 2 or 3 episodes. What stage are you at?

2 left of the first series. We actually took a massive break in the middle of it- all series do that now anyway, don't they? It hasn't helped.

I'm struggling with how Crawford can let someone so obviously fucked up by what he sees continue to work. And Hannibal's ability to hide in plain sight reminds me of Dexter. This is not a compliment.

Ye not to mention Will's "empathy powers" too. Second series is running at the moment but won't bother with it for a while if at all.

Yeah, me too. The first season was incredibly effective network television. Nice relief from the relentless arc-structures of the main cable dramas, with stunning production design.

It's a class show. The second season has opened very strongly. I don't see the similarities to Dexter at all.

I've never watched an episode of Dexter. Hannibal gave me nightmares, so it rates in my book.

Dexter started off great but lost its nerve once it emerged that Dexter himself was protected by the writing. Hannibal certainly doesn't have that problem. I'm not sure why 'pretentious' is a bad word nowadays. I wish more shows had pretentions. It makes them a lot more interesting than the run of the mill HBO bullshit. Fuller's aesthetics are absolutely gorgeous too. Everything he does has that 'Wes Anderson of television' kind of vibe.

Yeah, agree with that re pretensions. I'm looking forward to season two of Hannibal.

I think it's a show that could veer into a pretty awful hyper-camp failure but then avoiding that makes it interesting.

I don't mean the show itself, they're light years apart; more the knowledge that a serial killer is, as my favourite FBI agent once said, "hiding in the light".

It falls apart fairly quickly though to be fair. Only reason they manage to miss Hannibal initially is because he frames Will, but it's not something that will last very long. First episode of the second season hinta that things will get ugly fast. Fuller described the first season as the beginning of a bromance, the second one as the ugly falling out, the third will have a fugitive element to it and the fourth one will be Red Dragon with Lecter long behind bars.

I stopped watching Hannibal very early in season one. It just wasn't compulsive viewing at all. I like the sound of series 2 so far so I might catch up.

Ok, well that sounds promising. Will see how we go.

Ye the last 2/3 were very good. And i liked the first few episodes too, i just found the middle bit a bit irritating. I think my main problem is Will.

Think Will is going to have to be a rather different dramatic presence in season two. 🙂

Bruce Campbell guest starring in the penultimate episode of Psych was fucking class. I'm going to miss it like I've never missed a tv show when it ends next week. 119 episodes and not a weak moment so far.

Finished the first season of The Wire last night. Love it. Think i'll move onto True Detective next and save The Wire for later though.

The Psych finale was amazing. Worthy of a unique show. All I want right now is a complete bluray box. I swore I wouldn't buy any more optical media but I like the idea of owning a physical copy of the entire run for this one. I'll rewatch it more than once, that's for sure.
