Seen ep 5 of True Detective now. The "twist" is a red herring, surely everyone who's watching has already considered and discarded that possibility as too obvious.

Glad this arc / characters are going to be complete in three more episodes, what a novelty that'll be.

Pretty cool that in a couple of years if you've missed out on True Detective that you could just pick it up whenever. I'm trying to catch up on a lot of shows i've missed out on but have to start at the beginning for all of them. Can never start watching something from season 2 or 3, you just know you've missed something important.

It really is an amazing show. I haven't been this impressed with TV since season 2 of The Wire.

Season 2 was definitely my least favorite season of The Wire. The Sobotkas are scum.

Each season had its own theme, and I guess it comes down to personal preferences which season you rate the highest. I too think season 2 was one of the best.

Don't get me wrong, they're all great. Season 1 and Season 4 are the best for me.

kevin spacey is epic in the new house of cards. not sure about the show as a whole. felt like alot of the non spacey stuff dragged, and there were a few too many plot holes right off the bat. still worth watching overall

I love House of Cards, Kevin Spacey is definitely what makes the show, but overall it's very entertaining. As much as I liked TWW, I prefer the dark/twisted take on politics than the 'people riding around in high horses + lots of banter' angle that TWW went for.

Didn't know the second season was out, look forward to watching those.

Just finished the second season of House of Cards last night. Its a lot of fun in a really ridiculous OTT sort of way. Spacey is great, I love his little looks to the audience. I don't think its really comparable to the West Wing, I don't think its as ambitious as TWW or that it takes itself as seriously.

I feel the same way but I'm more skeptical towards its intentions. I think it's trying to be very clever but the writing can't sell it. It's a very good show at times, but it's difficult to take anything seriously if you've watched The West Wing. The political aspect of it doesn't interest me at all. They could have put Underwood in any upper class setting where he has powerful adversaries to overcome and it would have been the same show. It's good entertainment but it feels like a wasted opportunity at the same time. I watch it with this lingering sense that it could have been one of the greats.

Saw a one man (and one musician) theatre show earlier tonight based on the Iliad, starring the guy who played Russell in True Blood, Denis O'Hare. He was quite amazing, must've carried off a book's worth of lines without a break and no visible cues.

The writing never comes close to greatness though. Acting, visually, etc its near perfect but there just isn't anything to it really. Its a fun bit of entertaining fluff. Being dark and cynical doesn't make it more than that. I think if they had grander aspirations at the start they realised for season 2 what the show was. And season 2 is all the better for it. Its far more focussed and all the stories worked together much more neatly.

I agree. Don't think there's even a hint of them trying to be deep. It's pretty in your face.

I thought they added that internet guy after the Edward Snowden angle to the world. But then i checked out the old house of cards and it had a similar character.

But otherwise I'm usually busy in life,yea.

Daz's Breaking Bad update. Almost finished season 4 and it's probably my favourite since season 1. Man, Walt really shows himself to be a self-absorbed asshole. Great character though.
