Carnivale was ground-breaking when it first came out on Australian free-to-air TV.
Season two's not nearly as good as the first one though, and the other thing is that the majority of HBO-ish productions nowadays are equally layered and literate, so on a re-watch it doesn't stand out as it once did.
Pretty good show though, great cast as well.
