Got the bluray release of the 4th season of Star Trek: TNG in the mail a few days early. Loving it to bits.
I'm still astounded by the amount of work that has gone into this project. For those of you who don't know, the show is basically being pieced together again as if it had just been filmed. The old footage was in bad VHS quality since everything was edited on video tape and then broadcasted that way. It looked terrible on today's large television screens. It was impossible to scale up, so CBS have recreated the whole show instead. They've been digging through their archives to rescan the original 35 mm film cuts. Everything has then been remastered and edited together to resemble the old episodes. This also means that they've had to recreate every single special effect on the show with more modern CGI. One can hardly fathom how much time and money they've spent on doing so, but the result is fucking brilliant.
