That's some lopsided armies right there. Since they made a point of showing Kevan Lannister exploding with with the rest of them, it seems likely to me Jaime will finally take his place as Lord of Casterly Rock, Warden of the West and commander of the Lannister armies. And I don't think it's a done deal he'll throw in with Cersei. He's seen her for what she is and Tyrion will no doubt reach out and try to get him to join Dany.

Even if Jaime stays with Cersei the battle should be easily won by Dany's coalition which is why Klaus is probably right regarding the Walkers destroying the Wall and heading South sooner rather than later.

The Crow's Eye will no doubt try something but they have done such a bad job building him up I wouldn't expect anything. He's been in what, a grand total of two scenes so far and is nothing like the menacing, mysterious creature from the books. At least he got a look in, Victarion was cut altogheter. Shame D&D. Shame. Shame.

youre right about jaimie. i have a feeling he'll play a part in cersei's downfall, and will himself meet some kind of tragic and possibly redemptive end

I loved this episode. The first 20 minutes especially were expertly shot and paced. It was a pity that Margery seemed to go without much of a fight. Cersei came through like the Godfather, dispatching of her enemies one by one.
Interesting how she was so cold about the king's death. Just 'burn him' and move on. Was she always resigned to losing all the kids once her daughter died? Or was he an acceptable sacrifice that allowed her to take the throne? Oh, Cersei, tell us!

I assume it was his part betrayal in the last episode that hardened her.

Kingslayer will become Queenslayer, and might do a Tommen afterwards. Would have a nice symmetry to it, and fulfills the Valonqar prophecy

I had forgotten that. It's bound to happen then. She'll probably have to do something more heinous than the wildfire massacre. Or maybe its as simple as him wanting another child and she refusing to bear that burden.

Well, in the books there's wildfire under the whole city. Maybe Cersei will just attempt to burn it all down as there's no way her forces are anywhere near enough to stop Dany

Well it's all in Maggy the Frogs prophesy, she is queen she has outlasted all her children her tears have dried up, all that remains is she be displaced by a younger more beautiful one and be choked by her little bro.

To next season they've lost Sapochnik, who directed Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards and this year's finale.

Other directors probably got jealous.

Season 7 will be 7 episodes and arrives in summer 2017.

a year later

saw this thread when i was looking for a different one.

winter has come. season 7 is almost here.

Ennui Is Coming.
Hear Me Bore.
We Do Not Entertain.

So disappointing that the book still isn't out. Pull your fucking finger out, George.

Gonna let this build up I think, the pace is too fucking slow to get into otherwise.

Knock this lot off in one night when they're all out I reckon, then it'll just be another filthy memory.

They can't really do slow-paced anymore. There's only 13 episodes left of the show and they have too much to do already.

I really hope they go balls to the wall this season because its been tedious for years now.

Fell off a cliff after Season 4. No surprise considering the characters and actors they lost.

Also coincides with the time-frame where the books went shit.

I think they went off the cliff much earlier than that, but yeah. This is essentially what I don't get about Game of Thrones: They already had the books, they had the biggest budget in the history of HBO, they knew where the story became unfocused and entangled, and they still made all the beginner's mistakes you could make. The storytelling was amateurish right off the bat (few people remember it now, but try thinking back to Dany spending an entire season in the desert looking for water for her people) and the two showrunners are classic hacks whose shallow understanding of drama doesn't extend further than the clichés they were trying to copy in film school.

We've got 13 episodes left after moving at a snail's pace for three years, and one of two things is bound to happen now: either they'll speed it up and make the pacing so uneven you're gonna wonder what the hell they were doing with the previous 40 episodes, or they'll keep at it and turn this into one of the most unsatisfying viewing experiences in television history.

The structure reminds me a little of an AAA sandbox video game, where it's estimated that only 10 percent ever finish the storyline. People eventually get tired after wasting enough time on systems that can't maintain their traction. GoT got stuck running sidequests and levelling up for so long that they forgot what the point of it all was. Plenty of viewers will ask themselves that question too when they hear the news that the show might not conclude until 2019.

here is an alternate take:

i did not watch GoT when it was airing. i avoided talk of it and didnt watch it at all. i had read reviews of the books basically saying that martin was a shitty writer and the prose was terrible, so i never bothered to get into it. a friend convinced me this past winter to watch it. i decided to just binge watch it, starting on a trip to europe where i'd be in the air for 8 hours. i watched the first 2.5 seasons in basically one trip to europe and back. watching the episodes in quick succession made it easier to follow what was happening. i then just motored through the rest of the series, and probably ended up watching the whole thing in 1 month.

there are obvious flaws in the show, some of the character development is awful, some of the stories just drag, key players disappear for entire seasons, and it is kind of strange. i find the over exuberant sexual violence to be a bit much, and i wonder about the kind of guy martin really is. that said, some of the storytelling is good, some of the acting is good. i do think some of the critical acclaim for the show is way over the top, i would not put it anywhere close to the wire, the sopranos, six feet under or breaking bad. that speaks more to all of the amazing television we've seen in the last 15 years than how bad GoT is. its still a good show. im excited to see the last batch of episodes, and i imagine it will be really difficult to do it "correctly" and it not turn into a giant fucking mess.

Yeah, that's basically it. It's only enjoyable when you binge-watch it. That's why I liked the first few seasons (which I watched in a few weeks) and didn't like the last few seasons (where I followed regular programming). I'm gonna watch the new season in one go.

The fact that good actors get killed off also doesn't help. They killed Charles Dance but that Greyworm guy - who I think they found at a taco stand or something - is still on the show.

For all its faults, this is one of the few shows I feel the need to watch immediately when available.

And they certainly know how to make trailers, I'm excited.

Was Arya in that trailer? Only watched it the once and felt like she wasn't. If they don't bring her arc home at some point it'll be the shittest thing in history.

here are my predictions:

  1. baelish is going to try and turn sansa and jon against each other.
  2. dany will end up aligning with jon/the north
  3. smaller wars will end and they will unite against euron
  4. arya will remain in the wilderness for at least a few episodes. the reunion is coming, but i think they will prolong it for a while. maybe she arrives at winterfell as jon/sansa have gone south
  5. sandor and gregor will duel it out and both will die
  6. the last episode of season 7 will show the white walkers getting past the wall, setting up the last handful of episodes in season 8

and a bunch of other shit too

Is that Euron with a flaming sword?

i assumed it was beric dondarrion (brotherhood without banners). the flaming sword was his thing. edit: definitely him. has the eye patch.

1, 2, 4, 6 are super likely in my opinion.

I think Euron will join forces with Cersei and mange to kill one of the dragons in season 7. Another will die in season 8 and we'll be left in just one at the end of the show.

Sandor and Gregor feels like a season 8 battle when King's Landing is in ruins from the war with white walkers. Think it'll be more of them stumbling into each other rather than an actual battle.

Bran is an odd one. Will be interesting to see how they tie him back to the main plot. Through Jon would be the most sensible way but who knows. Like with Arya I think it'll be a series of annoying near misses until they finally reunite.

She was.

We know the showrunners aren't that great but they have invested waaay to much time in Arya to not bring her arc home as you say. I have no doubt they will. I also think it's pretty clear they have set her up to fulfill the Lady Stoneheart role from the books.

Indeed.

Damn, this show is such a turgid dumpster fire compared to the Twin Peaks revival.

Stop being such a hipster Burnsy

Just popped in to say this show is a glorified soap opera, except soaps know they are serving up vapid garbage to entertain dogs and hermit crabs.

y'all are some fuddy duddys. i'm still keen to see how things shake out 😆

the thing that will probably feel strange is the pacing. it's either going to be full on breakneck to the end, or breakeck with intermittent grinding halts. either way i think it will feel different to previous seasons

I'll probably watch it eventually, though barely finding time for TV at the moment (apart from Twin Peaks). The "hold the door" bit in the last season was brilliant, if they can find a few more payoffs like that it'll be cool.

Season two of the Expanse sounds amazeballs.

😆 Pretty sure the GoT showrunners also know this though.
