I think we've got the options to adjust if we get either Kanté or Xhaka.

On balance, the player with the better passing range would be the choice, so I'd go with Xhaka.

But we really don't want to see more than one first XI midfielder coming in. We can't afford it and we couldn't really use the player, and as far as I'm concerned we definitely don't want to hear Özil or Ramsey is leaving.

We need forwards Arsène.

i think we can accommodate 2 new CMs.

for instance, we could play kante as the lone holding mid, xhaka and ramsey as box2box, then ozil in front with alexis and a new ST up top. and even if there is no world class ST available id feel better with alexis and giroud as a partnership than playing with giroud as a lone striker again

in the above formation, the depth chart would be

dm: kante/coq
b2b: xhaka/ramsey, elneny/wilshere
10: ozil/santi
st: alexis/giroud, new striker/theo

we'd raise the funds for the new striker by selling ox, campbell and others. however, in that scenario i might prefer we sell theo and keep campbell and play campbell up top with a more traditional 9.

We're not even trying to get Kante, im sure. His agent is drumming up the interest so someone would bite and get his client a huge deal after the best season of his life. Probably his highest ever value currently and cant let it go to waste.

He is also not a holding mid IMO.

he's not, he's more like gattuso. they play next to a more positionally disciplined player, and have license to use their energy anywhere it's needed on the pitch

IMO if we played with a genuine front 3 with Sanchez as a ST on one side and a goal scoring AM on the other, then we no longer 'need' Rambo and I'd prefer to have players like Kante as the CM next to Xhaka, and with Coquelin & Elneny as the squad options.
My reasoning being that Kante would work in a pressing strategy and is quicker than Rambo, and that Rambo was the player most dribbled past in the PL this season.

Think that stat, along with many others, is quite misleading. Last season it was Fernandinho who was topping that stat, but I'd still take him in a heartbeat.

Do you have a link to the Fernandinho stat? Ramsey has been topping this stat since for awhile now. Think he was top for 2011 or 2012 as well

"Ramsey’s poor tackling (46% missed) is symptomatic of Arsenal’s ongoing weakness in central midfield". Percentage of tackles is nonsense, its the number of tackles a game you need to be looking at. Ramsey attempts a lot of tackles and that gives him a better overall tackle number than all our mids apart from Coq.

It's not that I'm anti as opposed to him not being good enough on account of his development stalling - same for every development player under AW, and it usually involves their defensive discipline = even Fagregas.

If retaining Rambo & Co prevents us from buying horse for courses and having a balance team then I'd sell.
