He just announced it on Twitter:

(He got hit in the head with a rocket shot in an FA Cup game against Blackburn last season, for context.)

Poor bloke. It sounds like he's been living a nightmare for the last year. He talked to Sky about suffering from (among other things) depression and mood swings as a result of the brain damage he contracted: http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11701/10173608/andy-wilkinson-announces-retirement-after-concussion-injury

I wonder what the actual probability is for something like this happening, by the way. You'd think there would be a big pile of scrapped goalkeepers somewhere if this was a common occurrence. I can't really recall any other player who has been forced to retire after getting shot in the head. I've heard of gun shots to the face that have done less damage to people.

Meh fuck him and the rest of those Stoke orcs who booed Ramsey, they make out out they're tough and then retire because they get hit with a ball- I wonder how they'd go if they were hit with a knee elbow or boot in the head.
Cech has a titanium plate in his but there he was heading clear outside his box against Leicester.

Bunch of pansies.

Goalkeepers, head injuries, Stoke, Biggus, logical contradictions, Welbeck … the pieces of the puzzle are all coming together.

Goalkeepers, head injuries, Stoke,, all logical, I understand now, thank you Biggus.

Fixed that for you Burnsy.

BTW don't you have a fucking play to go to?

His twitter picture is of Theo Walcott rolling around on the ground in pain...

Mrs Burns take his phone off off him!

No, seriously - wtf is this profile picture about? Never seen a weirder profile pic for a pro/ex-pro account.

He's more of a rugby player than footballer.

Fucking Northern fairies.

His proudest footballing career moment, one which he can proudly display on his twitter profile, is catching an Arsenal player with a bad tackle. It's not that weird from a Stoke player if you think about it.

Looking at the display pic, he deserve this ending.

Seems like his brain was damaged well before taking that hit.

Good riddance for football.

I wish him the best in recovery and retirement.

Hmm, he seems to have a different pic (can't see the Walcott one).

Hardly think it's that much of a tragedy, he's 31 so he's only missing a couple of years of his career. See you later mug.

wish him all the worse, his old twitter pic shows that karma is a bitch. and there is a tweet from him about how he was doing the wenger in toronto. fuck him and his brain.

Some of the comments in this thread are pretty fucked up. If you guys were Stoke fans youd be booing Ramsey with the rest of the apes.

if i was a stoke fan (shudder) and ramsey was a dirty cunt who celebrated the ugliness in the game then yes i would boo him. but i don't recall ramsey ever doing or saying anything in his career prior to his injury that would lead anyone to think that his injury was some karmic retribution. so yeah i actually like to see bad things happen to people who think it's cool to inflict damage on others. shrug

Booing Ramsey because he had the cheek to have his leg broken is hardly the same as noting the irony in the career end by ball of a wannabe hardman cunt who feels pride at trying to injure other players ffs.
