Yeah, that's what I'd like to know as well. Personally, I don't think it makes any sense. Further, I don't think it makes him an asshole either for agreeing to go to Bayern when they activated his release clause. There was a reason why he was adamant the clause should be in there, and Dortmund knew this all along.
Yes, obviously Dortmund agreed to it because otherwise he wouldn't have signed on in the first place, Götze had them bent over a barrel when they negotiated his last extension. He got a massive wagerise, forced them to include the RC plus had another clause where Dortmund pay 10% of the transfer fee to him instead of the buying club.
It also wasn't Bayern who triggered it, the information got out because he explicitly activated the clause; I have no love for Bayern but they actually didn't even want to close the deal until after the CL game, they then had to confirm it after Götze forced everyone's hand. Not sure what the point is of bringing up if it was during the semi final or a couple days later either.
And that's not even looking at the constant talk of how he doesn't want to leave Dortmund at all (even after the clause was made public) and the rivalry and competition between the two clubs. There's a reason most German football fans can't stand the little shit even though he scored the WC winning goal. He's Germany's version of RVP, even worse now that he's failed at Bayern he's been pushing for a move back to Dortmund for a couple months now.
