Yeah, I agree with that, Ofty. Stones is top class on the ball IMO, but he is only average at defending.
I have to say though, that Guardiola deserves admiration for completely adhering to his philosophy and vision. He played us the other day preferring to use Kolarov and Fernando as CBs because of their passing ability over more accomplished defenders who are actually good at defending. For us, I reckon that would mean that both Holding and Chambers would be ahead of Mertesacker and Gabriel from day one. 🙂
