Why would wages be spread over the contract? Mkhitaryan is going to cost United £10m a year and I suspect Ibrahamovic is going to demand something similar.

Chelsea are in a more stable position they're in because of half a decade of burning through cash. I'm not sure why they get any exemptions, I have no doubt City will look to do the same once they're fully 'established' as a top club which seems to be once they win the CL.

By any reasonable metric, there's a significant jump in transfer fees and wages.

In overall spend, yes, but not in individual transfer fees. They're still in line with affordability. And wages have not increased radically differently from transfer fees. When guys like Rio were signing with United, we were entering the era of the 100k/week wage. Now top players earn 3x that, in line with team revenues being 3x and transfer fees being 3x. I'm done with this discussion though.

It's simple economics. The more competition you have for a commodity the more upward pressure there will be on on wages and transfer fees. In 2001 there was only really United and Real who could pay top dollar, now you have United, Real, Barcelona, Chelsea, City, PSG, Bayern and half a dozen other clubs like us who can do it to an extent too. Yet the number of top quality players hasn't increased. You do the math on what that will mean.

This is yet another signing that blows the stupid theory that United can't attract any top players without UCL. This is probably the most convincing example outside of the un-gettable players.

Pjaca is an extremely intelligent signing by Juventus. Just for 11m mind you. I don't care about United signing someone like Pogba but all these promising youngsters we should be competing for them

The valuations changing hands now just show we really should've thrown some money around last two or three summers. There are massive question marks over our high level commercial decision-making.

Dortmund: Aubameyang, Gotze, Kagawa, Reus. Dembele off the bench
Arsenal: Giroud, Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez. Welbeck/Iwobi off the bench.

Dortmund know how to play this game. Not bad for a team with 2/3 of our turnover

Dortmund and Atletico are absolutely fantastic on the market. They just go out there, get decent replacements as soon as they need and just plow on.

Meanwhile Wenger is stuck in his idealistic world where he believes loyalty and belief is most important and lets Walcott fuck up for the 11th season in a row. Or gives Ox another year despite of him having the same number of goals all season that any of us could get, playing there.

3 years ago we said the same thing RE fees. We are constantly going to be up against it while revenues keep going through the roof at most clubs in England. £50-60 mil for Suarez would be looked at kindly now.
