This CL thing is a myth.
If it wasn't, Arsenal and Spurs would be signing all kinds of stars. We've been in this shit 20 years straight and ain't got nothing to show for it. Players are like you and me. They want to be paid. If you can get trophies even better, but I can't think of too many players who would value trophies significantly higher than money.

Also, with Arsenal vs United, your options might be

Go to Arsenal: finish in the top 4, play in the champions league but exit in the last 16. earn 100-150k
United: play in and qualify for Europa League. earn 200-300k

I think it's abit of both. CL obviously help matters when it comes to good but not top clubs like us. Our attraction will be far lesser without CL football.

Clubs like United are exception to this because they have a great deal of success in the last 2 decades and those reputations don't go away easily unless they go on a drought like us. Mourinho is a winner whenever he go so people like Zlatan have no probblems joining his project.

United aren't an exception though. United with CL football can get bigger stars than United without it. Zlatan is well past his peak, its not like they signed Neymar or Bale.

United's history does count a bit but there's only 2 clubs in England who're going to pay that wage and I don't think Wenger was interested in him either. Wether he should have been is another matter.

I'm assuming the 2nd team is City, but what about Chelsea?

I think 3 teams would pay 250k a week on a player.

Of course the CL thing isn't a myth. Not only can CL-United sign better players than EL-United as Qwiss says, but CL-United would also have to pay less in wages to a player than EL-United.

So United have Zlatan and Martial. We have Giroud. Wenger will sort it out though.

Who we have isn't really relevant. United would've signed someone better than Martial last summer if they were in the CL, and they'd pay Zlatan less now.

That we choose not to pay up has got nothing to do with this.

Well he's running out of options for CF. I can see him signing a LW and just keeping Giroud up front who'll change every so often with Sanchez etc.

City wouldn't simply because they have Pep as manager. I think they would rather call Darren Huckerby out of retirement than sign Zlatan.

Anyway, the sports aspect is not all about CL vs. not CL. When you're stuck at fourth place like we were, players would rather join the clubs that compete for the title. When United signed Martial, they weren't one of those clubs. While United now neither are competing for the title nor have CL, they have to pay huge money to get the players they want, compared to City, for example.
