Regardless of who we have, Wenger has had a habit of putting on fullbacks in an attempt to see off games dating back to when we had plenty of forwards but still put on Cygan on the left wing. He thinks of it as some kind of defensive stability being added but all it really does is lead to an inability to hold the ball higher up the pitch ultimately inviting more pressure. We aren't used to playing like this and we end up panicking and start clearing the ball upfield when we should be trying to hold onto possession and running the clock down.

yep, that really pisses me off.. yes we didn't have any other players on the bench but it happens even if we are fully stocked. Then it is just asking for the opposition to attack us. He could just ask the fullbacks not to go past the half way line.

Confirmation bias on Wenger's part. We don't end up conceding because the back line does a good job, not because we have two fullbacks on the flank.

Maybe but this isn't his first good game for us. Should be given a decent chance to prove himself like everyone else

It's his first game where it looks like he might have a future here, and it was a home cup tie against Sunderland.

He's had other good games, so that's pretty contestable. Other players have done less and haven't been subject to the same level of criticism, think that's where the snark comes in

Yeah, in big games I'd always have Walcott in the team. Having said that, Campbell today certainly didn't do any harm to his chances of getting legit playing time in the coming weeks.

He learns more with time on the pitch. It's impressive. I hope he stays injury free as he can get better even if he doesn't have that high a ceiling in my opinion. We need some of the other players to show similar determination with the minutes they are getting.

Harsh on him to say he didn't have good games before, very harsh. In fact by now whoever doesn't see Joel's quality should consider agenda cleansing. Should work on consistency, no doubt, but the Joel debate is not where it was 2 months ago or so, the kid's for real.
The pass for Rambo's goal was exquisite, his finish was beautiful, and he now is a player that when he gets the ball you expect something to happen.

Wouldn't make the choice over theo an automatic one, I'd certainly consider the opposition, but there's no doubt he's a better player at this point.

Campbell over Walcott 15/16 is literally worse than Flamini over Arteta 13/14 and Squillaci over Koscielny 10/11 combined. You're comparing a guy who has averaged a goal or assist every 100 minutes in the PL and CL in 5 of the last 6 seasons (i.e. every season since he's been an adult) to a guy who is going to warm the bench on a newly promoted team next season.

Campbell also plays with heart and it's endearing.

It's interesting though what we get with a player like him on the right. We are so much better. I can't wait for Wilshere to get back even if this season is mostly a write-off for him.
