Love that Liverpool backed Slot instead. It's gonna be a disaster period for them. People talk about the christmas tree formation, but his system looks like a christmas tree four months past christmas when it's basically just a wooden post with a few twigs sticking out.

Klaus its crazy how in a year they've gone from looking like a club where the structure had won them a title even without Klopp to now looking like they could go into a long fallow period. People were nailing them on for the title after getting Isak and Wirtz last summer.

Qwiss Going into the season their shopping list was something like: "One decent centreback. One tin of beans (Heinz). One winger." It's amazing how they instead went and bought three players for 400 million, and all of them (more or less) occupy the same area on the pitch... which also happens to be the position where Dominic Szoboszlai played, and he's worth more to the team than all three of them.

Klaus absolutely. When they signed Wirtz everyone said "well he'll have play false 9 cos he wont work in midfield", then they signed Ekitike and suddenly Wirtz was a viable mid. Then they signed Isak and the pundits were already etching their name onto the league trophy.

Klaus It's one of the most irresponsible transfer windows ever. This is something you'd expect from a team without a balance sheet like Manchester City. Not somebody who needs a balanced build.

I wonder if Szoboszlai would ever consider leaving. I've been in love with this player since his first full season in 2018-19. Would be perfect as a L8. Not sure I would want anyone else from them.

Yeah and it's the wrong timing for either, really. Liverpool have fucked their squad and City will have a nearly nailed-on post-Pep slump. So you make a strong point.

Burnwinter yeah I don't think so. Maresca was doing pretty well there. Failing at Real followed by a failure at Chelsea would mean less clubs interested in Alonso after. Like I don't see us, Utd, City, Barca, etc being interested if he flops at both of those sides. Starts looking like post PSG and Arsenal Emery.

Qwiss If you were coming to England it was still a preferable destination to City (impossible standards), Liverpool (delusional with a broken squad plus you're a saint there who'll end up being martyred) and United (genuinely intolerable bosses with a broken squad plus not actually available). Outside England there's Barcelona, Bayern and PSG and they're all settled for now. Limited options for the guy in the end.

Ray this doesn't make sense to me. City's squad is better than United's and Chelsea's, and this doesn't change just because Pep is leaving.

Ray Chelsea are rubbish. They were well managed by Maresca and were still only 5th. United will stuggle with a full schedule. I still think City are the most likely title rivals.

Similarly I wish we could get over Arteta's fear against Liverpool post Klopp? Or is it less a Klopp thing and more a Liverpool thing following his time at Everton?

Qwiss Maresca ain’t all that. He was managing in the championship only 2 years ago, don’t think it’s a wise appointment. If we win the title this year we should be outright favourites next season. Chelsea will be dark horses under Alonso and playing once a week.
