Declan Rice received a 6-month driving ban after being caught speeding twice in 1 week on the same road. Rice was driving 37mph in a 30mph zone and 49mph in a 40mph zone within a 5-day period. Rice did not attend the hearing at Crawley Magistrates Court but must pay £2,185 in fines and costs.

Qwiss with a huge difference, they fucked us over every single chance they had, when they did not have a chance to do it, they created it. With Chelsea it's the other way around. They foul so much that they overwhelm the ref and he simply cannot card them every time he should as then he would send players off in pretty much every Chelsea game.

That Rice ban is a bit harsh if it is just for those two offences. If you get 12 points on your licence you get banned so he might have had previous offences.. If it is just for those two then must have been a West Ham supporting magistrate who has done him! Not like he is going 20mph over the limit! The UK roads speeds are becoming a fucking joke though, I know a few roads in London which were 40mph only a few years back and some parts of that road have become 20mph, these aren't tight little roads either. Complete fucking joke and they stick cameras up to catch people out. Or they have police officers hidden trying to measure speed and catch people. Haven't got time to catch robbers but a car going 5mph over the limit is a nice easy target for them.

Sheesh, he's got a driving suspension for those speeds? Seems excessive to me. Unless it was because he could not attend the hearing (because of, well, you know, playing for Arsenal and we probably had a game or training session or something. lol).

The standard of driving in recent years has got so much worse. I only learned a few years back and there’s no way a lot of people on the roads would pass the test I sat.

@USArsenal and @Coombs — that was my initial reaction too. Then I remembered this is exactly why the US has a death rate 4x the UK.

It scares the shit out of me as I have young children. Cars terrorize us while driving, but also any walk or bike is as dangerous.

Don Pacifico the problem is that speed limits are often completely arbitrary, and sometimes unreasonably low on thoroughfares. Then you have the ridiculous amount of surveillance to robo-police a measure that has little to do with safety.

Make the driving test harder if the drivers are so bad. Punishing everyone indiscriminately with surveillance apparatus is not the answer.

Any rant is meaningless without including the fact that lower speed limits has resulted in lower fatalities. The UK has some of the lowest road fatalities in the world, even compared to the rest of Europe (never mind the US which is a PVP server at the best of times). Lets not break something that actually works for a change just so that people reach their destination 10 mins faster. You can still tear up and down the motorway and A roads if you really want to. Driving is one of the most dangerous activities that most people engage in, being extra cautious with it is entirely reasonable and worrying about speed camera surveillance is putting the cart before the horse.

I don't think robbers are killing 1600 people a year in the UK though. 20 mph is a totally appropriate speed for urban streets, the problem is in places like the UK, the designs applied to urban streets for decades have prioritised speed over safety, and though the speed limits may have been adjusted to something more appropriate, the actual physical designs of the streets haven't caught up yet.

Pepe LeFrits the 20mph speed limit in Wales has shown big improvements in injuries and fatalities compared to the previous period. Over shorter distances of a few miles or so the time taken between 20 and 30mph isn’t going to be too much. Good trade off for the fewer injuries and fatalities.
