Yeah, I too think the Carneiro affair plays a big role. Not even necessarily because she was universally adored by everyone at the club; I've encountered similar situations at work places where people were unjustly fired or generally badly treated - colleagues were also siding with the victim in this situation even when they weren't the most popular at the work place, reason being people can see themselves being next in line if they don't step in early enough to prevent similar from happening in the future. The overall climate afterwards was not too dissimilar to what's probably going on at Chelsea at the moment, although that's mostly down to Mourinho's embarrassing pressers and his throwing under the bus of virtually everyone to be fair.
