Here's the thing about appointing a DoF. We could get literally anyone, but we all know that Wenger had so much influence that any DoF would most likely be functionally useless.
Perhaps so but only IF he stays, and it also depends on the role of the DoF.
By the sounds of the article re Rosen is that he is responsible for just about everything other than coaching the team, and that he was instrumental in the process to appoint Nagelesmann as /head Coach/Manager, and that both of them are as much products of the Hoffenheim system as the players, which sounds more than a little like the Saints system. I like that Hoffenheim have both accepted their place in the food chain so far as losing players is concerned, but that they haven't let that define them as a club and have worked smart as well as hard to set up a system that will help to sustain them as much as any investor input.
I don't believe that AW can or will change his fundamental ideologies & that he is also unable to work with a DoF where he does not have control over everything - particularly at AFC. That said I DO think he would be more inclined to do so at the likes of PSG / RM because the quality of squad and players is almost ideal for Wengerball.
Bottom line for me is the more/longer the talk of a DoF continues the less likely that AW will remain.
that said I actually think him going to PSG/RM to play Wengerball would be a fitting way to end his managerial career before taking the reigns as DoF,
as opposed to looking to rebuild yet again with AFC.
I liked Nagelsmann as an option but thought he was perhaps too raw much like Howe, but having read the articles about him and Rosen and the way that Hoffenheim is set up IMO they would be a great pairing to secure to bring some of that same set up to AFC. My preference is that the club establishes a framework that is sustainable on and off the pitch where the players and staff are changeable but the quality of the football product remains consistent.
