Playing a top side, playing out the game and winning professionally. we poured so much of our energy into the first half that we were never going to be as fluid and dynamic in the second. Luckily, we built a sizable enough lead to lock the game down. Not something we do very easily against better opposition.

United weren't going all gung ho and throwing all their players forward like we tend to do when we're behind (which is why we get picked off so easy that way)

We had 4 clear cut chances after going 3-0 up and all 4 of them should have been goals, that's as much as you can realistically ask for against another top side.

There's no way we could have maintained the intensity of the first 30 mins.

It could have been 7+ goals for us yesterday, but the 8-2 game could have been a dozen for United so it kind of balances out. Just happy to see a real performance and hope we can keep wenger and the team on edge if it keeps them at this level for the rest of the season.

Looks utterly bereft of confidence. Really hope he can get a goal or have a top cameo appearance soon. He needs it.

If we managed to sort Walcott out technically, we will sort out Ox as well and he will be great for us in a few years.

technically, Ox is better than Theo ever will be. Its really his decision making that is his problem.. he will never be as good a finisher as Theo can be, but he can strike the ball hard and he is a good dribbler and is fast.. those are good building blocks. he just needs to put the package together and experience will help with decision making.. (IMO)

He is at an age though where he should have ironed out most of the absolute clown shoes first touches we still see from him on a regular basis.

ehhhh... maybe maybe not.. with a regular starting spot, maybe.. but injuries and then sub appearances, hard to get a rhythm. I still think he has it, and will be a pretty decent player for us.. but i guess only time will tell.. he's not a drop in quality as some replacements can be (think Bellerin to Debuchy)

Not really. Theo is much better technically. It's not 2009 any more.

He came from a much lower level than Chamberlain, so as Marv says, the Ox has it in him to improve to a good enough level.

lets put it this way.. ox has a wider array of skill sets than Theo does. BUT, Theo has much more experience. once Ox gets more experience, he will be able to take better advantage of those skill sets.

Theo's first touch used to be horrible as well (been great for a few years now), maybe not as bad as Ox, but im sure its being worked on.

@[deleted]: Easier said than done. Also - while Walcott may have had less variety at the same age, he still had a few specialist skills. In particular, being able to use his pace to either cut it back or finish. He's similar to Giroud in someways.

Chambo might be technically better at the same age but he's not showing any outstanding qualities, aside from his dribbling, but we've got plenty of players who can do that. And he can't defend so that makes him a liability.

Ox has a habit of dribbling past one, two and three players and then losing focus when releasing the ball even for a square pass. Invariably he ends up just giving the ball back to the opposition under almost no pressure making everything he did just before that pointless. The fact that these are such small things (albeit very costly at times when he does it) then I'm sure he'll be able to get rid of them with a bit more confidence and/or experience. He does a hell of a lot of good things, it's weird when he just messes up the basics. Has to be a lack of focus mixed with some hesitancy from his side.

Based on what Wenger said about him being his own worst critic and his general personality, I think he probably over thinks things too much. He seems like a smart guy though so I reckon he'll sort things out. Eventually.

Chamberlain will click eventually, and it will be glorious when he does. Give him a season or two without being interrupted by heavy injuries and he'll tear opponents apart.

Yeah. He seems like someone who'll keep putting in a shift in training to better himself. As long as he stays fit he'll sort things out. It's only a matter of time. Would have benefitted from a loan so he can iron things out in his own time but we can't even afford that considering how thin our squad is.

I doubt a loan is going to be of much use. Chamberlain needs to be around top players, not drop down a level and adapt to teammates who can't handle possession. Look at Barkley right now - he's ready to explode but his passing game is underdeveloped, and it's going to get worse for every year he stays at Everton.

Not long term Klaus. Just for 6 months to a season depending on how it goes. Just enough for him to gain some confidence and get a run of games going. Any ways it's moot because we can't afford to loan him out in any case. Thing is whilst Barkley is very good and playing with top players would improve his game, he's had a couple seasons as a first choice player. Thats given him the confidence he's playing with and that's what Ox needs at the moment.

Learning technical stuff from the greatsis all going to be beneficial for him but it isn't his biggest problem now. He's probably one of our better players technically, some of the skills he's taught himself are pretty mind boggling. What he really needs is to know he's good enough and not try too hard doing the difficult stuff whilst flopping the basics. At the moment he seems like someone who doesn't believe he's good enough but at the same time someone who knows he should be.

I don't see how a loan is going to help Chamberlain now - he probably should have been sent out a few years ago but these days he's a regular off the bench and starts the odd game as well. A loan would be viewed as a step backwards by all parties - certainly wouldn't boost his confidence.
