I agree. I've always felt his ideal position, the one that suits him the most, is centre mid. As a central midfielder he's got some real points of difference; a great shot from distance and that very rare ability to drive past people through the centre of the pitch. Out wide he's a not incredibly quick, one dimensional sort without a trick or final ball.

And in those instances he was under absolutely no pressure at all.

Against a really poor/weakened Sunderland team.

How can someone whose future is supposed to be in Central Midfield lack a basic ability to calibrate his passing properly and consistently?

Agreed. The idea of Ox as a CM is laughable at this stage imo. It's RW or bust for him.

He needs to focus on being a winger. He has the tools he just needs to put it all together.

He looks like the potentially best Ramsey backup in the squad to me, he just needs to sort his shit out. Maybe that's how he'll be used next season if we can be bothered to sign a winger in the summer.

If he is a right winger then we should get rid, cos he's proven repeatedly that he doesn't have an awful lot to add out there.

Then we should get rid. I think if he's going to make it anywhere in the top flight it's going to be on the wing, definitely don't want to see him centrally again because he'll never make it there. We'd get murdered in Europe with a midfield that struggles to kill a ball ffs.

Wherever he ends up he'll need to nail his technical inconsistencies to thrive at the highest level. Think it's primarily an issue of confidence with Chamberlain.

I think so too. He's not a short-passing midget but I don't see any technical limitations with him. The things he struggles with right now are things he's shown he can do well in the past.

Have to disagree there Klaus. He's shown a lot of promise and had much better performances than recent showings suggest, that much is clear, but he's never had a top class first touch, most of his dribblings had a touch of Gervinho about them.

Also his passing has never been anything above mediocre while his pace and crossing have been promising at times at least. He definitely has to get his shit together but even if he does literally everything about his game points to the wing and nothing to CM.

Have to disagree in return; I think Chamberlain's touch is fine. Above all I think he has a rare ability to keep the ball close to his ankles even though he dribbles by changing movement at a very high acceleration, and that's a measure of ball control to me. He's a different type than someone like Özil who seems to dance past players but there's definitely a rare aspect to the way he handles the ball.

The only thing that really points to the wing about him is the fact that we're currently stocked with much better players centrally, and most of them are either his age or just a few years older; i.e. there's not enough time for him to wait them out.

I agree with jones his touch isn't that great, and he's prone to massive mental mistakes (in his 18) and his defensive nous is nonexistent. Doesn't have the concentration or discipline to play CM in my opinion.

He is a very unique CM, one who can dribble past players and create space. And his pace will always get him out of trouble. He's wasted out on the right.

It was also his first game at CM for a while and he had a youth team player and a centre-back as midfield partners.
Not every player is like Messi (perfect out of the box) and much better players than he ever will be, Ronaldinho and CRonaldo, were wildly inconsistent at a young age despite not suffering constant injury lay-offs like the Ox.

All Oxs problems are decision based IMO. He just gets too many things wrong and I'd have to agree with Tim, I think a lot of it is down to confidence. He hasn't looked natural playing in a very long time. He is thinking about it too much and over playing it.

oh so it was iwobi and chambers that caused his inability to complete basic passes and control the ball. shame on them for doing that to the ox.

oh and i don't know why you're bringing up ronnie and c.ronaldo because at 22 (shit even at 20) they were way more accomplished than the ox and a year later world player of the year. i'm sure there are better comparisons out there for you than those two.
