Yep this is it.
Chamberlains potential hasn't even been slightly realised in 3 and half years. He's never going to be a world class players so why bother continuing with him? It'd be a lot of effort for an Aaron Lennon level player.
Kel wanted to sell Ozil a couple of months ago so I wouldn't be so quick in following his lead!
He's been plagued with injuries and just turned 22 last summer. Coq was older, had been here far longer and had less talent to work with before finally making his breakthrough last season. Don't know if Ox will have a similarly happy ending but I would like to think so given a free period from injuries.
People who claim he's not played well in 3 years or point out how much he's played as evidence that he's had ample opportunities to shine are being disenginous in my opinion.
If there's anyone you could compare Coquelin's situation to in this case it certainly has to be Campbell and not Chamberlain. Coquelin had something around maybe 20 appearances for Arsenal and was used as a utility man, Ox has 140 apps in his preferred position. Not sure what's disingenuous mentioning the number of chances the players had respectively, especially given the discrepancy in treatment and the stubbornness with which one is granted even more and the other none.
His frequent injuries are a shame as they surely stunted his growth but that's even more reason to not persist with him anymore if anything. Said it early on this season, we can't have players like Theo and Ox taking up important squad roles when they're missing large chunks every year because of injury, especially when they're as limited as those two (compared to e.g. Jack who's far more talented).
If we want to take the next step we need to replace some of these projects in our team; I'd argue even players like Ramsey fall under the same category. We can't carry several of them per game, and I don't buy this whole "squad" argument either as players will always be injured especially when they play for Arsenal.
