Campbell will never give a performance like Chamberlain has against AC Milan. Not in this lifetime.

Campbell hasn't been much better than Chamberlain anyway. He's contributed with a few goals/assists of marginal importance but his general play has been awful. Can't dribble, can't beat a man and still can't run when we try to counter. If I were to give a month's worth of starts to either player I'd go with Chambo every day. There's a chance he'll pull it together and find some form whereas this is as good as it gets with Joel.

The fact that a mediocre player like Campbell is even in the equation tells you all you need to know.

The questions's not whether he's talented, or whether the club should have been patient, it's when will Arsène Wenger give up on him and does he see it coming?

Wenger doesn't give up on players that way. He'll keep working with Chamberlain until Ox himself feels that he has to go somewhere else to get regular playing time. It probably won't be an issue for a good while.

Wenger will persist with him at least until the end of next season even if he continues playing like this, yeah.

In some small way Chamberlain reminds me of Ramsey after he came back from his leg break.

The scenario isn't identical; Ramsey was always a better player for one, but the way Wenger keeps putting Chamberlain on the field and the over-the-top way fans and pundits respond to it is a little eerie. Young players are going to struggle, especially when they spend years on the sideline at an early age. Only one way to get them back to the level where they need to be. This is one area where people need to trust Wenger. He knows what he's doing. He's probably better at this than anyone else in the world.

We've given Chamberlain months worth of starts for five seasons now. When he's not doing the Diaby he stinks the place up 80% of the time with the odd flash of brilliance here and there, for the last twelve months not even that. I also question his work ethic if after so many years at the club he still can't kill a ball properly ffs, plus worst of all of course is his disgraceful defensive contribution.

Campbell isn't the dream solution for our wing but he's clearly outperformed Ox, come on Klaus even if you're not fond of him his general play has been far from awful, generally not and even more so compared to Chamberlain. One had a couple of weeks to prove his worth, the other has been here for five years, both have roughly the same amount of goals for the club laughably enough but somehow the latter deserves another chance?

Even if that performance was as good as you suggest it was (which it wasn't) you're talking about a game about four years ago. Why not recall Jermaine Pennant or Aliadiere while we're at it, they had great performances for us too and are as likely to repeat them as Chamberlain is

Yeah, I agree with you Jones. The fact that Chamberlain had a couple of very good performances years ago doesn't merit him getting game time over Campbell who has outshone him this season.

Campbell is clearly the better option right now, but that's not saying much tbh. Campbell is bang average, while Chamberlain is quite poor. Not sure about either's future here, but wouldn't mind seeing both go eventually. They are squad fillers.

Campbell's performance for Costa Rica vs Uruguay at the last world cup is better than anything Ox has produced at the highest level.

The day that Campbell gives a performance anything close to excellent, I will consider him a player. Until then, I'll maintain that he is a nothing player.

And no, international football doesn't count.

There's no logic in giving Chamberlain any games ahead of Campbell at this stage in the season. Chamberlain may well be a more talented prospect but in the short term, I'd give starts to the player in better form and there's really no argument that, despite looking like he's about to roll over and die from exhaustion, Campbell has been superior to Chamberlain in 2015.

Nah, Captain is right, Campbell has been bang average.

You've got it the other way around too: I'm not fond of him because I think he's pointless, not because I have something against him as a person. I'll have plenty of patience with a struggling player whom I feel is talented. I literally couldn't care less about the guys who aren't talented enough to play at this level though.

we persisted with diaby and denilson for a while because they had a great game against chelsea. not the policy of an ambitious club i think. but then, we're not much on ambition anyways, except for the fourth place finish, arguably.

They did?

Yeah, Pennant got a hat trick vs Southampton on his league debut and Aliadiere destroyed Liverpool at Anfield once with like five assists. Both are as relevant to this discussion as Chamberlain vs Milan

Campbell had excellent performances vs Real at Villarreal, vs United at Olympiakos or against teams like Spain or Uruguay. You can discount NT footy or add more restrictions to suit your opinion but at the same time it's much easier for a guy like Chamberlain to display his worth playing for the same world class side in five consecutive seasons. Campbell barely had a look in and is well on his way to better Ox' overall league tally, then you have assists like vs Zagreb or at Olympiakos which Ox will never be able to pull.

As Kel says, I'd rather get two new wingers but if I had to pick one to replace there's only one option.

With Bellerin struggling I don't see how anyone can consider Chamberlain a better bet ahead at RWF. Campbell has put in a much better shift defensively and I've not seen anything to suggest Chamberlain is more likely to score/assist in the upcoming games.

Eh? Both Campbell and Chamberlain will be out of the starting line-up as soon as Sanchez gets back. The question is who has more long-term potential and deserves to hang around beyond 2016.
