I'll be very surrpsied if PSG don't go through.

BT sport think Chelsea did well. Wow.

I thought they weren't too bad either. A bit toothless in attack, but played some lovely stuff at times. Certainly much better than what they've shown on average this season.

Chelsea played better than in either game last season.

PSG should definitely win this, the only thing that might let them down is their inability to defend set pieces.

is it just me or did cavani's celebration seem like an 'eff you' to blanc?

How I saw it as well.

seems to be a theme among their players. i was surprised to see he'd signed a 2 year extension. they don't look to have improved much under him

Jones was right about Trapp, he looks like a really good keeper.

He's still a far cry from his performances in 12/13 when he was literally the best keeper in Europe. Don't get PSG's scouting, they make very good deals on players below the radar like Trapp and Verratti but also spend 50m on Luiz, guess the board sanctions some deals unilaterally.

Great goal by Cavani, that sort of movement and finish reminds me of his Napoli form. Great assist by Di Maria too, to think United replaced him with Depay 😆

Chelsea edged the first but were battered after the break. Will happily take the result and go again in a fortnight.

Chelsea needs to attack at home though which should give PSG a bit more room to play. Two scenarios I can see here; Chelsea scores first and hangs on for dear life after that, or PSG scores first and runs away with it quite comfortably.

Not sure what he's doing there.

Not being Cech, that's what.

Ha! 😆

Only caught the last 20 minutes of the half in the Roma-R.Madrid game, but boy was it was dull.

That said, if Marcelo's volley had gone in it would have been one of the best goals I've seen.

That attempted pass from Ronaldo just then was insane!

Deflected though.

Still a great chop inside to open up the shooting opportunity. Always amazed how much power he can generate without any real backlift. Even on the pass he played 10 minutes ago with his left too.

Benzema has been a joke in this game and Rodriguez hasn't been much better.

That defending from Digne...awful.

draxler really reminds me of van persie. and the jeff kinda reminds me of draxler.

The quality of his two goals tonight; the turn on the halfway line for the first and nutmeg and then audacious chip for his second, world class skill and technique.

We could have signed that cat. It still pisses me off.

Imagine having him and Sanchez on the flanks.. Would be brilliant.

He's built too - looks like he could hang in the league

We should have signed him. Class player. Can't wait till he becomes a world beater and Wenger tells everyone how close he was to nabbing him.

I've rated Draxler since his debut for Schalke but to be fair Wolfsburg took a very big gamble on him.

He's had a rather poor two last seasons at Schalke and didn't really light the world up yet for his new club, €40m is a steep price for a player when you don't know how he'll turn out. His other big problem bar consistency is that he has issues adapting his game to the wing, nearly all of his eyecatching performances came at #10.

That said he's on another level talent wise to our current wing options bar Alexis and I'd much rather give him minutes there than say Chamberlain. He'll probably move again in the future if he fulfills that promise of his but we'll be priced out by then.

Another one what got away.

draxler was worth a punt imo. i think he would've been a mixed bag here for a few seasons, but the quality would've come through eventually. that combination of technique and flair provides such an x-factor

Only seen the first half of Roma Madrid so far, but Perotti impressed me. Haven't really seen him before. Is he any good?

Haven't watched him play domestically, but his goal scoring record isn't particularly inspirational for someone touted to be the next van Persie.

13/14 - 6 goals in all comps
14/15 - 2 goals in all comps
15/16 - 6 goals in all comps (including 2 last night)

Perotti was a big talent at Sevilla several years ago, him and a young Navas I think it was formed a pretty decent wing combination. Was out for a long while with a herniated disc, just now finding his feet again.

RVP himself didn't post much better figures around that age to be fair, also you missed his breakthrough season in which he scored 10 league goals. He's being cultivated as a midfielder more though it seems, bit of a shame as with his dribbling and physique he could be moulded into a more attacking player, his passing isn't creative enough for me. On seven goals now for the season by the way, scored one for Schalke before moving.

Goal scoring figures aside, how has he been doing for Wolfsburg? This thread makes it seem like we missed out on Neymar or something. Great goals though.

EDIT : Yep my bad, you already talked about it.

I wouldn't have minded him but for the fee we probably could've gotten more ready made solutions.

He is still very inconsistent, from what I've read this season yesterday was one of the very few games he has performed for them.  He's had some bad injuries though

I'm not too pissed we didn't sign him, he was going for silly money for a project player. Same reason I'm not too pissed we didn't get Martial.

I don't think £25 million is silly money in the current market, especially not in a summer where we got no one else apart from Cech. It's one Welbeck and one Debuchy, basically.

I get why you wouldn't want to make him the marquee signing, but I would have taken that gamble any day on a 22 year old player whose only problem is the long-term recovery from the injuries he suffered during his last two seasons with Schalke. He'll be back in banging shape next season or so while Ox and Welbeck still look like Everton players and Campbell has been shipped back to Greece.

There's loads of players with potential who can be another of our project players though.
The exception that makes not signing Draxler rankle is that we knew we was in for him.

Yeah, there's a lot of sense in not stocking up on too many projects. When you do you might as well make sure that the talent is worth the trouble though. In a world of imperfect solutions, getting Draxler when his market value had dropped almost £20 million was a pretty good deal. If - or rather when - he starts tearing it up he's going to be ridiculously expensive. I'm not sure why the club backed off when we were so eager to sign him six months earlier. It's not like we did anything better with the money.

Someone said that he reminds them of van Persie by the way, but the player Draxler really reminds me of is Reyes.

You were one of Ox's strong believers last season and even you have completely given up on him these days. Says it all about his current season 🙁
