Does the new Star Trek have the same vibe and episodic format about it as the others or is it different? As much as I enjoyed TNG I don't think that style would work anymore.

I thought Orville was going to be a comedy but from the sounds of it they're actually trying to take themselves somewhat seriously? The idea seems utterly bizarre.

Watched the new Star Trek. I quite enjoyed it. It'll be interesting to see how the pace settles in once they really get going.

I do not understand The Orville. Idiotic idea for a show, it's just plagiarism. Thought it would be parody.

I guess it's sort of a parody, but MacFarlane is too big of a Trekkie to really go for it, so instead it ends up being like, "What if we played 30 year old Trek like it was a comedy instead of something with artistic values that sometimes was ridiculous and unintentionally funny?" And that's why The Orville is trash basically. It has no convictions of its own. He's stuck in the past, like a big portion of the fanbase, but without any of the good points that still makes past Star Trek well worth watching.

Yea the cheesiness doesn't work when it's so painfully on purpose. It's just kind of a "what if star trek was more complainy and crass" than "what if star trek was a comedy".

Season 3 of Narcos is really good - starts of slow but they put more emphasis on the story this time around and it pays off.

Finally got around to watching Star Trek. 1st episode is very promising, I'm really liking the direction they've seemingly chosen to go on. Tense and gripping. Visually beautiful too.

Just finished watching all 5 series of Bates Motel with my partner and eldest daughter. I enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would.

We're 3 episodes in to Star Trek. I'm not a Trekkie and am enjoying it. My wife is one and isn't sold yet.

It's very different to the older ones, so you'd probably be disappointed if you're looking for more of the same.

Wasn't so keen on the latest episode, seemed a little stupid. Hope it doesn't derail after a good start.

Yeah I was a bit worried by it too. Both plots were a bit too cheesy. Some of the A plot stuff was really forced I expect star fleet characters to be a little less stupid.

The B plot stuff was stupid all around too. It's a little disconcerting that the characters we're supposed to care about, who've all achieved high rank status among their respective groups are either so naive that they look like they were either born yesterday or have about as much subtlety and grace as the Wile E. Cayote.

Riverdale started again today, such a beautiful looking show.

Finished season 2 of Stranger Things, really is a fantastically enjoyable show.

Star Trek discovery on the other hand has quickly become a bit of a bore. Completely different show to the one in the first 3 episodes.

the first season started strong but it fizzled out towards the end. not sure if i'll press on with season 2

i'm just over halfway through stranger things. it's still enjoyable, but i think now that the element of surprise is gone it's lost some of it's magic

The second season started a little slow, but the two most recent episodes have been excellent.

Also, Mr. Robot is much better than it was in the second season.

Enjoying Stranger Things 2. It's highly nostalgic for me, even though I'm a bit younger than the protagonists.

I've heard it goes off the rails towards the end of the season, but not too worried. The enjoyment of this particular show is mainly about the texture of the sets, the creature designs and the overall sensibility for me.
