Haven't watched the last two episodes yet, but obviously if they don't bring the story home with some really cool revelations, it has failed as science fiction. Which would be utterly characteristic of the way things get made these days.
It'd be the same pattern as True Detective failing as weird fiction, for example—they get all the aesthetic and tonal things perfect, but fuck up really badly on the scaffolding. But will watch the last two eps this week and see, I suppose.
