Started watching Severance tonight. Gave up about halfway through the episode and watched some old comedy instead. Is it any good? Apparently it's rated well but didn't feel like I can push through it tonight.

Big Willie Yup, agree with the others. It's a bit weird at first but that's the fun part too, actually trying to figure out what's going on. Can't wait for the second season

Forgot about Severance. 3 years between seasons feels crazy. Not sure why extended breaks are starting to become the norm.

goon the norm has definitely been to take longer between seasons, but in Severance's case there was the Hollywood strike during production, so I'd imagine they had to reschedule for a time when all the actors were available.

goon makes sense for things with massive productions like HotD or Last of Us but the Severance gap is weird.

getting ready to start another re-watch of the wire. i think this will be trip number 15 or 16 for me through that universe. its been a little while, the show is so bleak and depressing and i wasnt sure i could handle that given how bleak everything else is right now, but i think its actually exactly what i need. its always like seeing old friends again when doing a re-watch

mdgoonah41 the last time we did a rewatch, I had to stop halfway through the heartbreak season (4, obvs) and we haven't been back since. We were still at Jo's dad's then, so that must have been over ten years ago now.

It's a funny thing I think that reflects well on The Wire, the fates of Dee, Bodie, Wallace, all the season 4 kids and many others, Frank Sobotka, Ziggy, Omar!, hit much harder than anyone on HBO's other big daddy of the time, the Sopranos. With the possible exception of Adrianna, but it also makes it harder to watch.

mdgoonah41 its funny how the first time i watched the wire, having known nothing about it going in, i was so confused/disappointed in season 2, because it felt like id been rugged. but with every rewatch now, i get more and more excited as season 2 gets close. half way through the season now, and i still think its easily the most underrated of the 5 seasons. just an insanely good story, great pacing, and the dock characters were super interesting. chris bauer as frank was one of the best performances of the whole series, imo

im finishing a breaking bad rewatch now. i have some complicated feelings about that show.

mdgoonah41 should have ended after season 4 imo, but season 2 is one of the best seasons of television I've ever seen.

RocktheCasbah the thing that strikes me every time i watch the show is just how odious and rage inducing walt becomes throughout the series. the "nice guy transforms into evil" thing that got written about by critics when the show was on was always wrong, imo. walt was always a bad dude, going right back to the pilot. but as the show evolved, he just becomes so loathsome. those moments where people are talking to him and he just stares into space and says nothing before giving some bullshit reply, they are just so grating to watch. which is obviously good writing.

season 5 probably could have been like 4 fewer eps and condensed into one run and it would have been fine.

Cheers guys. I'll give Severance another go. That late at night my brain couldn't be bothered trying to think wtf was going on. Started off like some Inception style sci-fi.

Ended up starting We Own This City about some US police scandal (surprise surprise). Good thing is its only 1 seasonand about 7 or 8 episodes so should keep me busy this week.

I thought that was cracking television, really enjoyed being back in B-more with David Simon and co. Jon Bernthal was such great casting in the lead role.

Yeah enjoyed the first episode. Helps we got Marlo there as well. I like that guy, he was good on Bosch as well.

Oh Jon Bernthal is a good actor as well. He was good in Walking Dead. A prick, but acted the part well.

I actually think I lost a lot of interest in the show once he got killed off, but maybe I would have lost interest regardless.

Agreed. He was a dick, but I actually liked him more than Rick, sleeping with his wife aside. She was his wife rhen right, or am I misremembering?
