Only part 1 of BCS's final season was eligible for the Emmys. Part 2 should take quite a few of the next ones, although now it competes with season 3 of Succession.

Well, okay, but I don't think Rhea's ever won one, which is ludicrous.

That being said, I will probably end up being team Succession once that's hit our screens...

BCS final season was better than s ason 3 PL of Succession which was decent but mostly spun it's wheels.

SUCCESSION season three was great but I felt it ended abruptly. Kendall's arc was good and the sheer coldness and emptiness of Siobhan and Tom's relationship, and the effect of that on both of them, was very nicely drawn. I wanted a bit more physical farce in the payoff episodes at the end. The next season (surely must be the finale?) ought to be a belter.

Just caught up with ANDOR which still has a couple of episodes left. Certain things aside like the way in these animated shows nearly every room in the "set" is a sterile cavern, it's quite good. It's miles better than the Kenobi spinoff, let alone the other junk they've done lately, and probably better than THE MANDALORIAN too. Shades of BRAZIL and also old 70s era Iron Curtain thrillers.

Actually, I think Andor looks much better than the typical "sets". From what I've read much of it seems to be that Tony Gilroy didn't want to use ILM's Volume that much of Disney's stuff is using now.

It really is a very good show. Not just in a "good for a Star Wars show" way, but straight up good. A regular thing I've seen being said to those who are disappointed with newer Star Wars content is "What do you expect? It's just a space opera", but Andor shows that it's possible to create good stories in this universe. Even The Mandalorian, which I like a lot, is still dependent on existing lore, characters and easter eggs in a much higher degree than what Andor is (despite Andor being a previously established character).

Yeah, that's somewhat fair. The parts on "Ferrix" were a relative triumph of Star Wars production design, and I think they had a multiple acre physical set for that. It really came through in the excellent finale.

The animated prison sets, though, were poor as. Lifeless and dull. A shame given the strength of that story arc.

I watched the Mandalorian and Boba Fett, the former was great because of Baby Yoda and the latter was ok. Andor started off really slow, gave up two episodes in but might pick it up again.

Was a bit surprised Miguel Gallardo speaks English.

Need to watch Andor, good to hear the positive reviews. Wasn't in any rush after Kenobi.

I actually stopped after two episodes and watched the rest this week.

The three first episodes were apparently released the same day because together they're kind of the pilot. Episode 3 is much better and serves as the climax of the first arc.

I also assume that means you haven't seen Rogue One?

Not sure if there's a particular order to be honest. Rogue One is set right before the old/original movies, while Andor is a prequel to Rogue One.

Rogue One is (in my opinion) the best Star Wars movie other than the original movies. Not a high bar to be fair, but yeah. I wouldn't say that you need to see it before watching Andor, at least not as far as I've seen.

andor takes time to get going, but it's a pretty strong offering. you can tell the showrunners put alot of care into telling a story that adds texture to a world that - let's be honest - is often just pew pew, laser swords and space magic

Andor is great. Best thing to come out of Star Wars bar none.

Always found it frustrating how they had such great material and put it aside in favour of lasers and other crap. This show is a great example of how much better it could be.

Agreed. It's an embarrassment for the rest of Star Wars, and also for those of us who said other bits of the franchise were quite good.

Imagine a version of Star Wars where the Empire's fascism was richly detailed and had meaning—it's executing what's always been science fiction's secret mission, critique of the present.

Exactly. What's quite good about Andor is that they haven't made the Empire cartoonishly evil - it's much more relatable with the real world.

Finally made it to the end of our 1-9 rewatch of the X-Files last night. Season 8 was way better than I remember it, probably one of my favourites actually, season 4 remains unmemorable to me (although it contains possibly the peak Gillian Anderson performance of the entire run in Memento Mori) and I've already forgotten season 9.

Though I think I could have watched a Doggett/Scully for a partnership for a couple more season, I just found Reyes too wishy washy to care about and it is, in the words of the show, "proof undeniable" that the chemistry between Anderson and even a half asleep David Duchovny was on another level entirely.

Poor old Robert Patrick deserved a bit better than he got in a poorly conceived finale.

The podium level seasons, for me, were 3, 6 and 8 & 2 sharing third place.

Mr Robot next. Blimey.

The new White Lotus season was also very good I thought. The characters mostly weren't as stereotypical as the ones in season 1 and the scenery was more eyecatching as well. The finale was crazy.
