Oh yes absolutely Klaus. I will certainly get around to reading the book. It does seem ambitious to adapt Tolstoy.

I agree it's no bad thing if a popular version introduces you to a book. The musical introduced me to Hugo's Les Miserables - both are excellent. And I love both the novel and the Davies production of Pride and Prejudice, having experienced both several times.

Yeah, definitely. Personally I like Davies's adaptation of Pride & Prejudice much better than Austen's original work. War And Peace is not anywhere near that level unfortunately, at least from what I could tell (and going by the reviews the problems will multiply), but I think the criticism would have been kinder if Davies had just called it a derivative work rather than an adaptation. Hearing him talk about the process of adapting the story it's obvious that he didn't have a clue what the novel was really about and didn't want to know. And that's totally okay. Maybe they should have gone all out and transformed it into a British drama instead, though.

Finished the first season of the shield, and two eps through the second season.

I love it. So dark, so fast-paced, so fucking brutal.

It only gets better too, right down to the finish line. It has some of the best and most shocking moments (there's one in particular; everyone who's seen the show knows which one I'm referring to) I've seen on tv.

On a slightly different note, anyone watch the World War 3: Inside the war room pseudo documentary? Chilling stuff.

Am enjoying War and Peace so far. I'm resisting reading up on the plot, unlike my wife and daughter who can't stand the suspense.

Started watching Dickensian as I love Dickens. The missus and daughter weren't overly keen so I might postpone that.

Anyone seen either Billions or Acquitted? I've heard good things.

yep. the cat & mouse plot is a little passe, but it's a good show on the strength of it's lead actors.

Yeah theres not much new or especially intersting with Billions but so far I've found it to be ok.

I only watched a few minutes of Vinyl last night (turned it off once I realised it was a 2 hour long episode) but it doesn't seem great. Not hearing much good from people who watched the whole thing either. Once the narration started and he said "you can hate me but I have earned your hatred" or whatever the line was I was just thinking do I need another one of these things in my media consumption. What could have actually been something interesting now looks like another anti-hero show with no new ideas.

Watching Narcos on netflix, about pablo escobar. 7 episodes in, effortless bingeing, lead actor is so brilliant. There's obviously so so much material they can show, so it's probably easy to make- that's the only reason I can think that this show is not very famous, like top of current lists.

Watched the first episode of The Expanse last night. It's a bit hard to follow and the Thomas Jane character's a douche, but the episode's dramatic conclusion piqued my interest.

Thats how I felt about it too but I turned off the second episode half way through.
