I have really enjoyed OZARK over time. It goes up and down a bit in quality. It's cheese and the setup doesn't work, way too many plot holes, but it's also quite dark at times.

Third season of SUCCESSION is where it's going to be at in a few months. That show is enthralling.

I just finished Exterminate All The Brutes. Mandatory viewing for everyone. I never thought a tv production could do the book justice, least of all an American tv series, but Raoul Peck really digs into the nightmarishly black core of it. It's a journey through centuries of genocidal empires sprung from ideas of racial purity, part documentary and part reenactment, interspersed with the filmmaker's own deeply personal reflections over growing up in Haiti and DR Congo in the 1950s and 60s, two places that acutely felt the consequences of both past and present colonialism. The methodic dissection of the utter filth and inhumanity that has openly been promoted as the pinnacle of civilisation, the big European idea driving the age of Enlightenment, leaves you cold to the bone. "You already know enough. So do I. It is not knowledge we lack. What is missing is the courage to understand what we know and to draw conclusions." Give this man all the Emmys.

I really hope it gets more people to read Lindqvist's book too. It's the only truly necessary book that has ever been written about European history.

I just read that they've added Alexander Skarsgård and Adrien Brody to the third season. That's some cast they've built up.

Succession is probably the show I'm most looking forward to a new season.

How is the OA so highly rated? Avoided watching given it’s premature end but saw it high on another list so gave it a go. Through most of the first season and it seems dreadfully dull and the sci-fi aspect is just plain weird. The acting is uninspiring too, especially from the lead. Jason Isaacs is the only decent thing about it so far.

Didn't know till now he was once one of Madonna's backup dancers. Terrific actor. Perhaps he was one of those guys able to convert his private pain to screen presence, like Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Rest in peace.

I rewatched the terrific Jim Mickle show Hap & Leonard recently and couldn't stop thinking about how good Williams was in it. I wondered what he was going to do next. Gone way too soon.

Hap and Leonard was a fun watch. The Wire's Omar obviously one of TVs best ever characters. RIP

Anyone watched Them?

Weird ass show, no idea what to make of it. Feels like it could have been a lot better than it ended up being because someone wanted to be creative.

Started watching a new show on FX/Hulu called Reservation Dogs (Produced by Taika Watiti).

Found to it be quite hilarious.

Haven't see past the first two. Episode one was fantastic but it already started to feel like Waititi was rehashing some old ideas into new content by episode two. Plan on going back to it, though.

I feel like Waititi is a brilliant artist who's still adapting to fame at the moment. His outlook on people is deeply sympathetic though.

If he hasn't adapted yet I'm not sure he will. I'm not entirely convinced by his oeuvre but some of it is certainly quite brilliant. Something slightly annoying about being strategically endearing, though, and the filmmaking is frequently quite sloppy.

I agree. I think his best work brings together the epic and the human, and those works are full of leaps to transcendence as well as bathos. When he tries to make high concept work, it's often a misfire. But I enjoy his tenderness towards humanity in general, misanthropes get so tiring.

I wouldn't be so sure about the adaptation bit. He's obviously made a lot of money in the years since his Marvelisation, and also become a sort of sex symbol or public figure, it must have been a pretty interesting time.

Unfortunately his next project after the latest THOR sequel is a pretty shitty sounding version of the COOL RUNNINGS story, which is not the sort of thing I want.
