I agree. I think his best work brings together the epic and the human, and those works are full of leaps to transcendence as well as bathos. When he tries to make high concept work, it's often a misfire. But I enjoy his tenderness towards humanity in general, misanthropes get so tiring.
I wouldn't be so sure about the adaptation bit. He's obviously made a lot of money in the years since his Marvelisation, and also become a sort of sex symbol or public figure, it must have been a pretty interesting time.
Unfortunately his next project after the latest THOR sequel is a pretty shitty sounding version of the COOL RUNNINGS story, which is not the sort of thing I want.
