Anyone else seen Frankie Boyle's Tour of Scotland? I just watched the first three episodes and thought it was excellent. I liked his bit about Michael Jackson: "Thank god he died before he perfected the forward moonwalk! And was able to sneak up on children while it looked like he was moving away."

As much as I'm enjoying it, does anyone else think there's something a little off with Curb this season? I can't quite put my finger on it, but some of the bits just come off as a little silly and the acting very deliberate, almost like you're watching a reunion show at times.

Its very broad this season and like you said very silly. There seems to be a lot more breaking too, can often see the actors smirking at themselves when they say something funny. Still laughing at it more than any other show on TV at the moment though.

Finished 3 seasons now and the third wasn't as good. And now that you've expressed your dislike of Titus I can't shake the fact that his head is permanently tilted about 25 degrees to the right. It reminds of of the Far Side cartoon of the family watching tv sideways. 😆

Yeah that's it. It's really weird and takes the edge off.

As you say though it's still great.

Better Call Saul S5 is delightful thus far. Really liked Michael Morris' directing for EP3.

Narcos México 2 got stronger as season progressed. And gives a great set up for seasons 3 and 4.

Was re-watching ANNIHILATION the other night and I realised Alex Garland has a new show out, a technothriller called DEVS, in a couple of days. Set in Silicon Valley and the protagonist discovers a world-changing conspiracy at a Big Tech company. Reckon that's bound to be worth watching, Garland is a sharp observer.

Yellowstone is a very weird show. All of the main characters are absolutely despicable human beings, but I get the feeling that's not what Sheridan wants us to think. Also, the way some of the characters just constantly end up in trouble out of nowhere seems incredibly forced.

What did you make of Annihilation? Almost unwatchable for me but I loved Garland's previous film Ex Machina.

Oh yeah, that was a big flop. Which is a shame as there's a compelling setting that they could have done justice to if they just told the story more seriously.

None of the single events are out of the realm (what actually happens in Western US), but when someone forces so many of them together it doesn't give any of them credence.

What a shame that didn't pan out.

The setting is the main reason I've kept with it so far, such beautiful landscapes. I take it that it doesn't improve in season 2 (if you watched that as well?)

All the random violent occurances kind of reminded me of this scene. (From 0:00 to 0:38 ).

Didn't watch Season 2, doubt I will.

I agree the setting (landscape) is beautiful, but I think the best part of the setting is the clash of different forces (ranch life, private interests and Indian rights). That's what I thought was going to be so compelling but they did a disservice of each by focusing on dramatic characters instead of diving deep into the actual interests.

Had they followed the approach of a more serious show - say The West Wing - it could have been an epic series.

If you haven't watched it Wind River (by Tyler Sheridan) is quite good.

Yeah, didn't mean to limit it to the landscape. What I like about the setting and the stuff you're mentioning is that it feels like a completely different world to most stories set in present time. Different rules, different people, like the rest of the world doesn't even exist. That's what I liked about Wind River as well, that the setting itself is a main character. I had hoped this show could be more like that movie, but unfortunately not.

I love it, one of my favourites from the past few years. Very formal and minimal and it's also a brilliant adaptation of the book it's based on. Combining relationship trauma with "cosmic horror" a la Lovecraft or STALKER was a conceptually clever move from the author Jeff VanderMeer.
