The new adaptation of Dracula is top entertainment.
Hilarious, twisted, slightly hammy, richly dark with the best character being Sister Agatha.

One more upvote for Agatha! Brilliant character. I love Claes Bang as Dracula too. Best one since Lee's Hammer days.

I think it might be heading towards that cliff in the final episode tonight but it really is great fun.

It was, it's worst crime being that it was boring for a substantial amount of it's 90 minutes.
The mood changed the minute he left the ocean at Whitby - it worked as a shock ending to episode 2 but failed when it had to be developed into episode 3.

I thought Wesley Snipes was going to show up at one point. I appreciate the creative license but I will pretend the episode didn't exist. Bravo Dolly Wells though.

Struggled through the rest of the Witcher. Final episode was probably the best of the lot.
Also started on the Unabomber after reading some comments on here. Really enjoying it so far and the acting is good quality.

Yeah, it wasn't too bad. The one thing I really liked was how they worked with the different timelines and brought it all into sync. Really well done I thought. They need to find a way to up the stakes though, like I really couldn't give a toss what happened on the big battle of the season.

I think the timelines thing was needlessly convoluted. It fits in a show like [spoiler]Westworld[/spoiler] although the second season of that show lost my interest as well. In that show at least there was a reason for it, a mystery to be revealed. Here it just felt malplaced to me, because we never wondered what was going on until the reveal itself.

I just thought it was a smart story telling device without having to resort to more crude methods like flashbacks etc, and when it caught up on itself it all tied together quite nicely. I thought the fact that you're almost unaware you're watching different timelines meant they avoided making it convoluted.

I agree. I was real sceptical during the first episode when all of a sudden that battle happened which we had been given no reason to care for or understand. But throughout the season they managed to pull it off quite neatly. I also agree about your point regarding the final battle, that felt like the one part where they overstretched themselves and the tension was lost because we knew the ultimate outcome.

Agree with that myself, it would've been really tedious if the important back story from the banquet and wedding scene, for example, had been framed very heavy-handedly with some sort of "woo, I'm remembering my past" device.

THE WITCHER was pretty fun. I think the show needs a little more emotional range. Enjoyed the little bard guy because he broke up the monotone mood a bit, it should be funnier overall.

It's been a bit of a hit for Netflix, anyway. If something like this can be successful, I'll be interested to see if the Elric TV series project gets up:

The thing that didn't work for me was the Ciri story line. I enjoyed Geralt and Yennefers stuff. Its very hard to have a little girl just running away for 8 episodes and make it compelling. I also found the character really unlikeable, maybe thats on purpose, she certainly came across as spoiled.

That was a problem for me too. In the last game she's a very different and likeable person, but maybe that is something she develops during the first games or in the books (or maybe she's just always like that in the books).
[spoiler]For example when she tried to stab that guy because her friend wouldn't, then the friend got hurt because of it and she left him for dead. Also maybe I've missed something very obvious, but was there a point to her being in that magic forrest or whatever it was? From what I remember she just came there, decided to stay and then changed her mind and left. [/spoiler]

[spoiler]It's just a reference to things like the story of Persephone or Thomas the Rhymer, I guess. A "fairy" encounter. It was supposed to demonstrate that the importance of her higher purpose went beyond her own need for security. However the writing team fluffed it by not adequately foreshadowing what she's meant to be doing, and not creating much urgency around her getting out of the situation.[/spoiler]

I read one of the Sapkowski books ages ago, and couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

Was thinking I should watch Watchmen now that all episodes are out, but should I see the movie first? I watched it in cinemas, but that's eleven years ago, I don't remember a thing. Not sure if the show is its own thing or some kind of sequel.

I struggled to watch the movie - I’ve quit it twice. But I thought the TV show was exceptional. The cinematography, the use of visual devices, the subversion of norms in society and popular culture, and the satisfying resolution of all the main threads. It’s powerful.

You should skip the movie and read the graphic novel instead (I guarantee you won't regret it) which is what the show is actually a sequel to unless I'm mistaken.
