The new Doctor Who was fun. I watched all of David Tennant and Matt Smith, but stopped halfway through Peter Capaldi. Jodie Whittaker was really good I thought, with great scope to grow into the role. Great to have a northern Doctor as well - I have a good mate living in Sheffield so was fun seeing some of the sights.

As an aside, another good friend's teenage daughter is playing Raven in the new Netflix series Titans, which lands soon. She was at Comiccon recently and sent back a photo of her, her sister, Matt Smith, David Tennant and Alex Kingston - very jealous.

Better Call Saul season finale was fine, though the ending didn't quite sit right with me.

The appeal hearing and aftermath not only felt a little unnatural but it felt a little like history just repeating itself rather than any sort of real character development.

I also don't really get this sudden cold and indifferent attitude towards his brother after his passing. I get that the resentment was always there, but I'm having a hard time buying into his reaction to his brothers death and the finale didn't really do much to explain things... although I'm notoriously bad at reading between the lines[/spoiler]

ok, so apparently you are bad at reading between the lines.. lol.. first off, it's not a sudden and indifferent attitude after his brothers death. well, it's not sudden. years and years of his brother beating him down to the point of trying to get him removed as a lawyer took its toll on jimmy. he finally got to the point that he doesnt give a shit what his brother thought or did because his brother was a sanctimonious douchebag. in the final "fuck you" to chuck, jimmy actually used HIM to get re-instated as a lawyer, something chuck would probably be rolling in his grave about

i felt the hearing was exactly what i thought it was going to be. jimmy using his brother in an attempt to emotionally win over the panel, which he did (obviously) quite well. Kim, of course, thought it was real emotion from jimmy (and so did the panel) but we, as audience members know there's a chance that it's all bullshit, since jimmy is a master manipulator, which he was obviously being. And yes, history repeating itself, but with the added benefit of not having chuck around to keep him in 'check' anymore.

I felt the ending of the episode was what people were actually waiting for.. we knew how he ended up with his name, but what we didn't know was WHEN he ended up with it. This episode answered that. And we are all trying to figure out what happened between him & Kim that caused her not to be in Breaking Bad, which is obviously set in the future a bit as we're creeping up to that timeline.. I think this maybe sets up the next season as to the fallout between them, as you could see in her face that she was absolutely mortified by his reaction after the hearing and his decision to get the DBA paperwork.. I think she is realizing that he doesn't really have any real emotion, he just loves the chaos and "angles". Kim's emotions were on a roller coaster this past season, but at least she has some. Jimmy, as they are making it seem, has just gone into full cold mode and she can't tell if anything he will ever do will be real or not.

I thought the more heart breaking storyline of the finale was Mike & Werner. Mike can be a cold and hard person, but he was clearly not comfortable with what he had to do, and did try to talk Gus out of it every chance he got.

Yeah I get all that. I just don't buy that particular reaction to it. Jimmy hasn't been painted to be a monster so the idea that, after learning his insurance scheme essentially caused Chuck to kill himsef, he decides he no longer cares doesn't really wash. You could argue that it's a defense mechanism, which is what I had assumed, but then I'd have liked to have more clarity by the finale. I have literally no idea what's going on in his head and the car sobbing scene didn't help.[/spoiler]

[spoiler] I agree, Walt (and Jimmy for that matter) aren't the only ones who broke bad in these series'. Mike is well on his way, and he has now crossed that line that we all know he didn't want to cross, but he did it anyway. I never disliked Mike, even from the BB days. I mean, we all know what he did for a living, but he was very thoughtful and calculating in his actions, and this was the same. He had to weigh the pros and cons of it, and realized he couldn't get around doing it, but at least (and i assume Gus) allowed the wife to be spared and never to know the truth (and also assumed she would be taken care of financially?)

Goon - i do think its a defense mechanism. Also, i'm not sure that his crying in the car wasnt more to do with the fact that his dream of being a lawyer was being taken away than it was for Chuck. Another interesting idea about it - maybe Jimmy simply feels free now that he doesn't have Chuck watching over him and trying to correct his every move.. (?) Maybe there will be more about it in the upcoming season.. i didn't hate the way the season ended TBH, I somewhat expected the fact that he was bullshitting the panel (and seemingly Kim as well). The one-take scene in Daredevil's season 3 puts the other two to shame. That was incredible.

Do you have to watch the defenders for season 3 of daredevil? Is it in continuation with that show? I obviously remember the first 2 seasons baaaaaarely, so while watching a youtube recap the dude did a recap of the defenders after the daredevil 2 seasons recap.

So when is Vikings supposed to go bad? Because I just finished season 3 and thought it was pretty weak. It should have been epic given the events that went down, but it all felt like a big gigantic mess and I feel very detached from the main characters. Bjorn is probably the only likable character in there.

[spoiler]Personally I think it went bad later than that, but then again I liked more characters than Bjorn. Athelstan was probably my favorite, so that was a big loss. I still liked (speaking from a season 3 perspective) Lagertha, Ragnar, Bjorn and Ecbert. The problem in season 5, without spoiling, is that new one-note characters are introduced that I don't find interesting whatsoever, and the story revolves more around them than I'd hope.[/spoiler]

Lagertha was one of my favorite character in the first couple of seasons but her character seems to have lost all substance in season 3. She's just there, lurking on the outside of significance. Maybe it's just a lull in her arc. Ragnar and Echbert are interesting characters but it's been hard to get on board with them, they've irritated me more than anything this season.

Floki is an irritating fool. Also, given what happened at the end of the season with Rolo, seems like it would have been much better if the tension was to build between Rolo and Ragnar through the season rather than with Floki.

I liked Athelstan too, but he's dead.

Walking Dead is way better this season. Probably as good as its ever been so far this season.
