Not sure if Subotic is actually available, but I'd go for him over any of the names being mentioend in the rumor mills.

Wenger is excellent at setting up the offense and a bit dodgy at coaching defense. I thnk he should just compensate by getting the best defender the club can afford.

Subotic would really not be available.. Dortmund is top of the Bundesliga (10 points up on Mainz & Leverkusen), and there's no way they sell their best defender when they are well on their way to a title, not to mention his contract doesnt expire until 2014

would be a coup, but realistically, next..

I think its worth mentioning because generally a players' own fans are the best judges. If anything i thought he'd be overrated there. Oh and there's also strong rumours that Bolton are going to sign David Wheater.

Never understood the Cahill hype myself. Don't think I've ever seen him dominate a big side's striker, or stand out in a big game. King, Jagielka, even Lescott have always looked much better.

Sol played well when he was available but was resticted in the sense that he couldn't realistically play the number of games that we eventually needed him to.

I don't know if he's a bust overall, that depends on whether or not he can cut out the idiotic, naive mistakes.

But I don't think he was a great signing.

I think he's a good player who's done reasonably well. My worry is that if we're forced to play him and Djourou as the first choice pairing for the rest of the season we don't have a lot of quality to back them up with. It shouldn't be that hard to get a player to put in-between Kos and Squillaci in the pecking order. I didn't see the point in signing Samba when Vermaelen was still scheduled for a january return but he'd be a pretty decent alternative at this point in time. Much cheaper than Cahill too.

It would make more sense to make Koscielny that 'in between' player, and sign someone else.

Ideally, but I think it's very unlikely to sign a good starting starter in january. Nobody would let such a player leave in the middle of the season.

I don't really rate Samba, but he's not a terrible shout at this stage. Better than the likes of Legrottaglie or Upson.

Doesn't seem like a particularly Wenger-esque signing though.

It's ptobably not true but Chelsea are rumoured to be in negotiation with Dortmund for Subotic....
