Ozil's preferred movement is to the right so as to shield the ball when he receives it looking to come/pass inside because he doesn't generally look to take players on by going outside, whereas Cazorla does because he's both 2 footed and played on the flanks at Villarreal.
Our WFs look to come inside and create space for the overlapping player to go outside.
Cazorla's heat map shows him outside Ozil, but Ozil is still more left side bias than central.
The tactical suggestion is that we played an inverted 3 man midfield to counter CFC's 2 CM base AND to disrupt the supply to Fabregas at CAM, and that we looked to go outside to negate one of CFC's strengths in defending the edge of their defensive 3rd (which is where we prefer to attack the opposition area through).Â
We looked to draw their defence across by looking to overload either of the channels, before looking to switch play &Â isolate the opposite full back in a 1v1 without close support.
