We already have one Welbeck. :hmm:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Hmmm I can see the appeal but I'd rather a more rounded player.
There's a complete dearth of top strikers
I'd be tempted to give Theo a crack and get someone like Isco or Gotze
No way should we sign someone who is going to be off for three months every two years as a key player in his position, unless he is absolutely world class - which Aubameyang is surely not. Waste of time and space.
Whilst he would be an upgrade on what we have, he isn't the world class striker we need. Sign him this summer and we'd all be crying out for a world class striker next summer as well. £30m is a huge fee for him as well.

I don't think he's even that. Better than Welbeck but around the same level as Giroud.
And for the reported £30+m this is worse business than Liveprool buying Benteke. If true of course.
No, just no. This won't happen.
Would complete go against Wenger's 'focus on quality rather than quantity' spiel. Like Qs says, it would be a very Liverpool move.
He's worse than Welbeck. Would be a waste of money.
while i think it would be a waste, here are counterpoints:
- physically he is suited for the league. hes like 6'2, hes agile, and he has blistering pace
- he can play LW, RW, and ST. that gives us options
- he scored 26 in 46 last season after scoring 16 in 46 the year before
but yea thats about it. this seems dumb
"he can play LW, RW, and ST. that gives us options" I'm starting to see that as not really a good thing any more.
true. but, lets say wenger wants to play walcott at ST. that means its...ox at RW? maybe ramsey if he persists with that experiment? or, say he wants to play alexis at ST. who plays LW?
id rather we sign benzema or reus, obviously. and this rumor doesnt make a lot of sense
I think I'd rather have Aubameyang than Giroud, but there isn't much between them. If we're willing to spend £30 million on him then Wenger thinks he's going to turn into a big player though.
This would be as silly as Liverpool spending 32.5m on Benteke.
Would fit with what that Muzzi chap said about a player that some may deem world class and others would deem average.
Who thinks Aubameyang is world class?

Another who broadly fits the rumor parameters. Also very realistic.
Sad. It would suck if we got him and United pulled one of Benzema, Lewandowski or Cavani.
I'd rather sign no one than Aubameyang. Horrible player.
Can't see what he offers that Theo doesn't.
Spend the $$$ else where

This player flexibility options BS becomes an excuse in AW's numbers game and ultimately creates a squad who can do a job without excelling.

He can stay fit for one thing.
What a waste of money this would be.
¯_(ツ)_/¯

A mean front flip.

This would be absolutely brutal in real life. I doubt this lot could string two passes together.
This rumour won't go away. I'm starting to worry.
Think you can relax for now, Steak:
Borussia Dortmund have warned Arsenal against bidding for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, insisting the striker is not for sale.
Gabon international Aubameyang has been lauded as one of the Bundesliga's best strikers after netting 26 times last season.
Arsenal reportedly failed with a bid of £28.7million for the former St Etienne player and reports in the German press suggest the Gunners will come back in with a renewed bid of over £30million.
But, having allowed Ciro Immobile to join Sevilla, Dortmund are determined to hold on to Aubameyang and are hopeful of extending his deal at Signal Iduna Park.
Speaking to German magazine Kicker, Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said: "We rely heavily on Aubameyang - that is no secret.
"I've heard a lot about this (a transfer to Arsenal) but I can say very clearly that it is blocked for him. He is simply not for sale."
Aubameyang has three years left on the five-year contract he signed at Dortmund in the summer of 2013.
There's an interesting diskrepancy between people's opinion about Aubameyang on here and the way he's seemingly regarded by Arsenal and Dortmund.
It's called people not watching games. He's an upgrade on Giroud, for Ozil at least. I want us to start seeing a real return on the Ozil money. While Aubeyamang doesn't drive through defenders like Benz, he's still an excellent asset on a ,onion offense with Sanchez and Ozil. Massively better than Welbeck too.
the issue, for me, is that we lack an elite striker who resides in the top 2 tiers of the world's elite. giroud is a good compliment and a great option to have on the bench, especially because hes great in the air and he can help close out games.
unless welbeck is going to be deployed on the wing, he is currently giroud's backup. aubameyang is not comfortably better than giroud. we should only buy a striker if hes comfortably better than giroud
Klaus wrote:There's an interesting diskrepancy between people's opinion about Aubameyang on here and the way he's seemingly regarded by Arsenal and Dortmund.
He's not bad, but in truth he's not even a proper striker. I think he would have been an interesting gamble when he first joined Dortmund and, maybe some Wenger could have worked on but atm I feel it's a sideways move.
Effectively it's £28m to kill Welbeck.
Which actually makes it kinda worth it.
The problem with Aubameyang is, yes he's an improvement on Giroud but sign him and we won't be signing another striker for the next three or four years, and he isn't good enough to warrant that.
The only credible link has been Benzema this summer. Some higuain noise - and most here don't want him. We are not talking about walking into Tesco and picking up a striker here. We might have to take a gamble
Question for regular Aubameyang watchers:
Would you have him or Benteke here, given that the transfer fees being bandied around are quite similar?

Has to rank among one of the most uninspiring season compilation videos I've ever seen. It's only 3 mins long and a minute of that was filler.
I'll reiterate my stance on this - if we can't get a top class number 9 like Benzema/Cavani/Lewandowski, then I'd go with Walcott, Giroud and Welbeck, in that order, and focus on landing a top class wide forward like Reus/Götze.
Iloveyouarsenewenger wrote:Question for regular Aubameyang watchers:

benteke has the edge as a pure centre forward, but if arsenal needed a striker and it was between these 2, i'd take aubamayang without blinking an eye. he has a decent all round game with blistering pace and good physical attributes. he's just a bit raw in his decision-making and finishing. i wouldn't be surprised if he added more polish to his game this season.
still, if no-one elite is available, i'd rather rely on theo, olly, alexis, and welbeck as strikers than drop 30m on obama, who would ultimately be another project
