Just sign Morata instead.
The big problem is that we'd probably have to approach a similar fee for Morata, and then of course it begs the question why we didn't just went all the way and signed the better player instead for a few million more. Any transfer involving an established striker this summer will also involve ridiculous money unfortunately.
It's starting to become obvious that De Laurentiis wants to cash in on Higuain though, otherwise he wouldn't make all this noise. The question is who will bite the bullet and pay up. Atletico's offer of £50 million plus two squad fillers (I think it's safe to say that Atletico weren't offering Griezmann and Godin) doesn't strike me as a great bid for a world class striker in a day and age where City just paid £49 million for Sterling and £55 million for Kevin de Bruyne.
£50 million plus Giroud might be a worthy bid on the other hand, and I think Napoli would have a hard time turning it down. We could loan them Szczesny too with an option to buy while we're at it, perhaps.
