Can't believe some are still stuck in denial... it was (somehow) legit initially, but now it's quite simple: Santi will not play CM when somebody can do something at least close to what he does. At this point I don't see where that somebody may come from. Above mentioned options are (at this time) hallucinations.
I don't really care for comments like 'denial' or 'hallucinations'. It is also true that Ramsey has produced a better season at CM than Cazorla ever has, or is ever likely to do.
There are many ways to skin a cat; there is no law in the FA rules which dictates that we MUST play the way we do now. I am totally convinced that Ramsey or Wilshere along with Coquelin would form a better central midfield than the one we currently have. We'd have to play a bit different from how we play with Cazorla in there, but I don't really see that as a weakness.
It is also true that Ramsey and Coquelin never got a fair chance to gel as a duo, and the team didn't get a chance to adapt to that constellation either. It should be lost on no one that it took a handful of games for the TEAM to adapt to Walcott at point instead of Giroud, and it would equally take a bit of time for the team to settle with those two in midfield.
For me, it really boils down to that I rate Ramsey as a better central midfielder than Cazorla. There are things he does worse, but there are plenty of things he does better. In the end Wenger decided to stick with the emergency solution in an injury crisis, which is what the then 29 year old Cazorla was, rather than to stick with the immensely talented, young player who was only a season earlier one of the very best central midfielders in Europe. Personally, I think Wenger made a poor call there and, personally, I think it is only in the last month or so that I think Cazorla has been up to scratch defensively on a consistent basis. As a result, I have praised Cazorla for his performances, because he has really played well.
