I think you're confusing him with Emerson Palmieri maybe, who did his knee last spring and missed the first half of last season. Rudiger started the season for them with a difficult knee injury too. Manolas has been injured in the past, but I just looked and he started 50 games in 16/17. Whenever I caught a glipse of Roma he was their best defender alongside Fazio.

I'm not sure why he didn't move to Zenit. Supposedly he didn't fancy getting paid in Rubles since it's a pretty volatile currency, but it seems like an easy detail for them to sort out.

Personally don't think we need a defender like Manolas after we signed Mustafi. We need someone commanding to replace Mertesacker and van Djik would be perfect for it.

Maybe they don't want to go to the first club that comes in for them. Players like that move closer to the end of the window.

Because of the 25 man PL rules, we need to sell before we can buy.

No we don't. The rules are about registration, i.e. those who can actually play. We could have a squad of 60 if we want.

The logic is we aren't going to pay players who can't play for the club in the PL. Sell them before you buy, as there is no guarantee they will be sold afterwards.

Worst case scenario you loan them out. Regardless, Jenkinson and Debuchy won't play whether there's space for them to be registered or not so the idea of not signing the likes of Lemar in the meantime because of that is ludicrous.

Allows to plan easier and reduce the risk of getting stucked with them.

You asked what the benefits of selling players early is, and tbh it's quite obvious what the benefits are.

We should probably take 25-30m for the Ox. If he does go then one of Debuchy, Chambers or Jenks will have to be Hector's backup. Not sure who else could play there - Walcott and Wilshere don't seem right, nor Gabriel. Maybe Wenger's thinking Nelson could play there but that would be a huge gamble.

Agreed, you feel that sort of money for Ox wouldn't be too bad, even in this market. Very fond of the kid but I don't think he will ever have the temperament and consistency we need.

Ox situation is a fucking joke, guy has been rubbish for us for years and strings a few good games together and suddenly doesn't want to renew. At least with Alexis you know the guy has played out of his skin and has a right to feel that we aren't pulling our weight.

From what I understand it is his agent who is pushing him to move, player himself is happy to stay. One thing he needs to get into his head is that all his inconsistency has been tolerated here but if he gets his big money move they won't be so forgiving there.
