I suspect this is part of the motivation behind the comments re both Xhaka and Ozil, as they are both key players in terms of our creative play. Also by improving their attitude and performances it improves their value and desirability.

First, Arteta is right not to make bullshit public. Players leaving shouldn’t be played out in media. Until they leave there should the appearance of unity. Xhaka is an asshole for disrespecting him if true.

Second, we aren’t getting Fernandinho now. City have a thin squad.

I've always thought Xhaka had more to his game than most but I'd let him go now. He's poison at the moment and we've way too many players like that. Arteta said he doesn't want players who aren't buying into his ideas (still played him for some reason though) so he may as well go.

Clear the poison and rebuild, even if he's not replaced till summer.

Also expect that it's part of a campaign from Xhaka & Co to force a move.

The other point to consider is that for Xhaka & Co to actively engage in transfer talks with another club means that AFC had to not only be aware of the discussions, but to also have given their permission for them to do so as he is still under contract and not a free agent.

I understand Arteta starting with a clean sheet for everyone so as to try to improve the team confidence etc, but behind the scenes Xhaka would be mu #1 priority to get out of/away from the club. If Ozil's petulance was not considered the right behaviour, then Xhaka's prior outburst was a death knell on his time at the club.

If Xhaka was to go this January, we need a replacement so do people prefer to go for Rabiot, even if just on loan, or someone like Partey? We don't have much creativity in midfield and likewise lack power as well. My preference would be for Partey as it might complement our existing options like Ozil and Guendouzi more.

We should absolutely not take Özil into consideration when deciding who to buy. But yeah, Partey would of course be nice.

Reports today that Arteta may look to block any movement in Jan whereas he'd let him go in the summer as he has said (and supposedly pissed Xhaka off in doing so).
IMO Xhaka is looking to create an opportunity for him to go on strike to force a move just like the Captain prior to him did last summer.
My ideal scenario would be to loan someone to replace him in Jan & he can sit out the remainder of the season in the u23s/Cup team. I don't want him near the 1st team and I don't want him achieving his departure at his pleasure.

As a club we're supposed to be classy and stand for something along those lines - as such any player who tells the Home supporters to fuck off can go do one = end of story for me, let alone that he hasn't issued an apology as opposed to some sort of justification for his actions. Then there is the issue re the armband and shirt & no apology to his team mates.
But that's just me - I'd have sacked AW at least 4x the summer following the end of season relegation form following the CCup loss, the going against the BoD twice re the Fabregas sale followed by the 2-8 capitulation at OT.
