What a lovely loop in circumstance. If I recall correctly, Monreal's debut came within two days of signing him and I don't think he had more than a days worth of training with us. Nacho has been a blessing for us both at centre back and left back, both small and big games. Him and Cazorla were just exceptional buys from La Liga and I'm grateful for their contribution to Arsenal's resurgence of FA cup glories in the current period.

Personally I'd make an exception for Nacho but if the club are trying to run a tighter operation maybe you can't make exceptions?

In an ideal world, yeah. I don't think AMN is good enough to fill in for Bellerin while he's away either, same with Nelson, probably Martinez, but I don't personally think it's a priority to buy better backups. The point is that we could let Monreal go in Jan and then have our new first choice fully bedded in before letting our old first choice go. Instead we play our backup in the meantime. He'll do a job, but probably not a very good one. You see it as me expecting the club to have three LBs, but I see it as a special situation, that since we bought Tierney while injured then he's a non-entity before he's ready.

Is Nacho going to do a very good job? I’d play Kola over Nacho anyway.

Maybe, but we've already extended with him once this summer so I don't think so. He was out of contract in July but we had an option for an extra year and activated it. I don't imagine we were ever trying to negotiate a longer deal for him.

Suspect Nacho wants the move and the club is happy to let him have it, especially given the statements around how there will be no fee but just "preferential access" to some Real Sociedad players? Think this is like the Kos move, without the strike and the noise and bitterness - initiated by the player.

Monreals age is perfect to be back up. More likely he wants to go home

Also Donostia is probably the most beautiful city in Europe. London doesn't even compare especially for a Basque

Yeah. He loves Arsenal and as a backup for his age it is perfect for him.

I think he just misses home.

London is shit for anyone not from London especially for someone who hardly speaks the lingo. That's not saying much as Donostia would, also, be a great tourist destination but a shit place to live for a Londoner.

Turkish press reporting that Elneny move to Galatasaray has fallen through. Offered him to be one of their highest paid players but he is simply not interested to move and wants to prove himself at Arsenal.

Most footballers like living in London don't they? Genuinely can't see why they would dislike it, they're not exactly living in the inner-city to be worried about crime etc, most of which is overblown anyway.

That seems pretty low actually for a city as famed for its internationalism. In Frankfurt that figure is at close to 60% for example.
