I do fear that making this whole argument public backfired. Otherwise it could have been dealt with without any loss of face (the club could have still made it public at a later stage) but, as you say, it's now as much about ego as it is about moving back to France.
From an idealistic perspective I'm glad it came out but from a pragmatic perspective I think we made a mistake.
