400k is more than Ronaldo earned at Madrid. More than anyone in Spain or Italy bar Ronaldo and Messi

For a midfielder whose one class season is five years ago, with massive injury issues. Marotta was really the one keeping that place from going insane

We never had to give him 400k. We pulled out at _180k, which itself was a lot given our context
That was possibly a good decision... on the back of some abysmal decisions

Anyway - it's a nice headline figure, he isn't earning that much as a basic wage.

I do get the feeling this is coming from his agent so wouldn’t surprise me, mainly because in the same article is suggests he was sought after by Madrid, Barca, PSG, and Bayern among others. Has the smell of a good agents handy work all over it.

Marcotti, who actually has good sources in Italy, probably unlike Ornstein, says differently:

£250K per week, including sign-on and probably potential bonuses, is entirely believable. A £400K base wage is not. Since Ornstein is little else than a press release for Arsenal nowadays you wonder who fed him that number too, and why...

Either way, Ramsey had already agreed a contract in principle with us back in September before we retracted it, and it certainly wasn't for anything close to either amount that is being reported. Absolute fairytales to think we couldn't afford extending with him.

From what I can gather even though his agent had agreed a contract they had been stalling from signing it for months. I'm in no way defending Arsenal's negotiating skills here but I am not so sure Ramsey had any intention of signing with us. I think he was using our offer to get himself a bumper deal elsewhere. Leaving money aside why would he stay with us? He's seen plenty of players leave and win trophies elsewhere, why would he not want the same? This was going to be his last big contract so he has to look out for himself. As a club 1.5 years ago a decision should have been made, once a player enters his last year you are basically his bitch. I don't blame Arsenal for withdrawing a contract offer that he had no intention of signing, I do however blame the club for letting yet another player run his contract down, Ramsey should have been sold 1.5 years ago. RvP, Nasri, Sagna, Wilshere, Ox, Ozil, Alexis and Ramsey all off the top of my head. All these players ran their contracts down, three of them left for free.

£250K is the same number that was reported at the start of January too, which lends it further credit.
