As I said before I believe they were opportunistic buys, Welbeck and Sanogo are more par for the course.
That's nonsense, all buys are opportunistic.
Whether it's signing us signing Ozil or Chelsea signing Fabregas or United signing Mata or Liverpool signing Balotelli. Similarly, signing Cech would be opportunistic as well seeing as he wants to stay in London - of course, if he wanted big money or challenge himself in another league then we can't do anything about.
But you're accusation here purely seems to be down to the material amount of money that Wenger is willing to part with for some unspecified reason - presumably because he's a goalkeeper. I believe you once said that Wenger wouldn't spend big money on big players because he was afraid of the consequences of them failing or that Wenger would not be able to manage their egos. I also remember you suggesting that the bid for Suarez three seasons ago was all for show and Wenger would never actually part with that kind of money.
No its nonsense to say all buys are opportunistic, many are carefully considered and pursued.
Err am I missing something here?
If I remember correctly in the real world Liverpool laughed at Wengers opportunistic bid and we didn't buy Suarez.
You're like those people in the 60's who seeing man reach the moon expected it to become so mundane that within 50 years everyone would be driving space cars to it for the weekend.
They failed to understand that the race to the moon involved an enormous technical and financial effort by two superpowers and those conditions are unlikely to be reproduced for generations.
The clamour for Wenger to get up off his lazy arse and put some of our vast fortune to use by buying some marquee players for fans to worship instead of his usual 'we don't buy stars we make them (then sell them)" mantra was starting to become deafening, allied to the fact that we hadn't won anything in 9 years Wenger was starting to become worried and he had to do something.
