I tend to agree Alf. And I think Cech is quite overrated. I mean he's a good keeper but he's not what he used to be and I don't see him making any major difference at the back for us. He was on par with Woj for the 13/14 season but both had their problems this season. I'd be inclined to back Szczesny and Ospina to battle it out unless someone truly world class was available.
I think you're seriously overrating Szczesny if you think he was ever on the same level as Cech. Apart from little spells here or there he has never proven he is able to be a top class keeper. The guy has had his chance, I know he is young but for years now he has shown little to no progress.
Bottom line for me is Cech is clearly better than both of our keepers. Both of whom aren't good enough for a club like ours. Ideally I'd want someone 10 years younger but there isn't anyone 10 years younger who is better. Getting Cech in gives us a few years to find our next keeper.
the young excuse for szczesny isn't even cutting it anymore. the guy is 25 and is not better today than he was at 22. most of the elite keepers were doing it at a high level at a young age. cech, buffon, casillas and now courtois, de gea, etc. szczesny is who is he is, unprofessional and not committed to excellence.
just looking at that list, moaninho has this rep of not playing young players, but he relied on cech and courtois as 22 year olds on title winning sides.
