My point isn't even that we won't score goals - the question is can we create and take enough chances without exposing ourselves to conceding?

I saw Wenger was saying that we'll need to be patient, use the West Ham game as a blueprint.
Difference being that just the one goal was all we needed against West Ham so the pressure was not quite the same.

Don't underestimate the pressure that Monaco will have. it's not easy to motivate yourselves when you're sitting on a comfortable lead. Their natural game is to defend, but who knows, their fans may put pressure on them to play some football.

Our task is straightforwards, Monaco's is a bit more complicated. We have seen in the last 3 seasons with Bayern and Milan that 2nd legs where you're in front present a difficult psychological aspect to them.

Let's hope that comes into play here, because Monaco are weaker than our opponents in the last 3 years, and we are stronger than we were then.

I'm struggling to see us having 3 goals in us even after West Ham. We're creating but our finishing has been poor all season, and I'm not sure that will change vs CL opposition. Ramsey and Giroud are the only regular goal scorers with some consideration of goals from Sanchez/Cazorla.

Early goal will be the game changer.

Because thats not how his teams have been set up to approach any European games for the past 8 years.

The difference here will be that they wont drop their heads once they go a goal down and then completely give up if we get a second like WHU did. If we get a goal Monaco will just dig in deeper.

If we create the chances we have a chance but I think thats going to be the really hard part. We don't create a lot against well drilled, negative sides.

You haven't watched us in Europe in the last few years then. If anything we deviated in the first leg from what we normally do in the knock out stages in Europe.

Anyways, we will definitely create chances, if not many. I will urge patience too. Nerves will play a huge role here. Monaco doesn't have a lot of recent European experience. The earlier the goal comes, the better it is. We just need to be clinical. Even if we score one after the half, Monaco will really start getting nervous.

I am actually really looking forward to this game. Expectations low for the tie, nothing to lose, interesting to see how we do. I think we will have little pressure and enjoy our football. Funnily have done much better in the 2nd leg in recent seasons - against Bayern twice and against Milan. We would have beaten Barca too if UEFA weren't so desperate to have them in the final.

Look Rohit, I don't know if your definition of counter attacking football is the same as mine or what you'd call defensive but the golden rule for 2 legged games in Europe is simple- Don't concede at home- Achieve this and you've one foot in the next round, and we've never approached a home game like that since 2006.

Its too late to think about game plans anyway, as long as Monaco aren't complacent they'll be fine. Unlike Milan and Bayern, they won't underestimate us.

Once our first goes in then the jitters come out whether that is in the 70th minute or before.

With gel irons not missing a hat full in the home fixture we would have bossed it so we have it in their to do it. Plus there is the Bayern and AC Milan evidence that when you know you can concede one it is easy for two to fly in a send the shitters through the whole team. We can go through but it's a 1/10 chance at best.

Theres nothing funny about it because thats the perfect scenario for a Wenger team, no need for a measured sizing up of the opposition no need for stepping or down the gears to control the tempo of the game as required and no need for dogged defending- Just all out caviller attacking.
Great entertainment for the neutrals but no good for us.

Quite right. For a moment I felt optimistic but it's all fucked up again. Their defensive record at home is huge and there is about 0 chance they can understimate us as this game is as big as it gets for them.

We have no chance.

Even with just 90 minutes left out of 180 minutes there is still time, it only takes a second to score a goal.
But it would have to take a massive attitudinal change from Wenger and time to instil a very different ethos in the team.....With apologies to
