sadly, the most likely result will be 2-0 to us, and we'll fall short.

monaco have no reason at all to attack. even if they score 1, it doesn't change the calculus of the match. they are going to sit deep. i think we need to keep coq in the team, because hes often times going to be on his own as we push ramsey forward to try and create goals.

the kamikaze option is to take him out, play ramsey the deepest, and put both ozil and cazorla in front of him.then we basically have 5 attackers at all times, and 6 when ramsey inevitably charges forward

If we do get to 2-0, things will become incredibly tense, because major pressure will mount on Monaco to try to make the tie properly safe, which would actually require two goals at that point.

That's probably our best hope of getting through here - nick a couple of goals by the 70 minute mark and then hope things unravel.

I attributed the blame for the first leg result to Wenger and the defence and Giroud collectively ... seems legit to me.

Players may make mistakes and have off days but Wengers had 18 off years in the CL.

IMO the performance is possibly more important than the result in regards to the remainder of the season. The last thing we want is to win but go out, and then for the heads to drop and then to lose sight of the remaining opportunities in both the league & FA Cup.

In our current incarnation we don't tend to go on a downward spiral of results after one poor result or a disappointment.
Nor, unfortunately, do we go on invincible runs on the back of great results such as the one against City.
As I see it our Achilles heel is our flakiness and frailty in the face of extreme pressure, or conceding the first goal, within each individual game that we play.

Worse case scenario and Monaco get the early goal here - I'd be concerned about our reaction - it clearly would be a blow if they did, but it would not change the fact that we need to score 3 plus.
The challenge: how to score 3 goals or more without throwing caution to the wind?

We'll have a proper go at them for sure, but it won't be enough with us putting in a great performance, we need them to choke as well. If they don't, we'll never score 3 on them at their gaff, they're a pretty solid outfit.

For all the talk of Monaco as a defensive powerhouse, they were not very good defensively at the Emirates. With 'normal' conversion we would have scored at least 3, despite us not being especially clever or anything going forward on the night.

Not sure, I do know that they haven't conceded at home in ten league games.

Overthinking, I know 🙂, but seriously how do we set-up and approach a game where we need to score three against a team that seldom concedes at home whilst at the same manage to time avoid conceding ourselves?

They have only conceded 2 at home since November IIRC.

Monaco has only ever conceded 3 goals at home in europe once in their history. That was back in 2004 when they won Deportivo 8-3.
