Speaking of Thierry and learning to finish, the great man himself was a pretty shitty finisher at Akpom's age. Besides, you don't score as many goals at youth level as Akpom has if you can't finish. There's plenty to work on for him and Wenger but from what I have seen, he's got all the raw tools to become a quality striker.

On topic it is typically extremely difficult to predict who will become world class. Rooney, Aguero and Messi were always obviously going to turn out top class but what about guys like Drogba, Diego Costa or Luis Suarez? Some just have a development burst later than others.

Henry had that incredible zero back lift curler even as a kid at Monaco. Although, he had to learn to finish in all the different ways you have to in order to score a massive amount of goals every season. And it's more that which I'm talking about with Akpom. That 'Ian Wright' quality of being able to control the ball quickly and finish when it comes to you at different heights, different speeds and different angles. Akpom has a lot of improving to do; he misses 5 chances a game at reserve level currently; that's testament to his exceptional movement/timing in behind the defensive line and inside the box (poor standard excepted), but it does show up how technically weak his finishing game is.

Akpom will turn out world class in 2018.

The last 8 players to score 12+ goals in La Liga at 21 years old (like Vietto):
Agüero
Higuaín
Messi
Torres
Saviola
Morientes
Raúl
Ronaldo

Not a bad bunch to be with.

Akpom has had poor finishing from day one. The club really need to get him and just be like sod the rest of training you need dedicated work on this for a protracted period, sod the rest of the work.

If he is going to come through as a striker he needs this as his bread and butter as the rest of his game is fine, he will never make it unless his finishing improves massive from where it has been at youth level.

Dybala looks like another Sanchez esque wide striker in the making, agent sounds like a bell end though. Is it Darren Dein?

Vietto now at 20 goals for the season. Only 21 years old.

Lukaku's now at 16.

Harry Kane at 26 goals.

Mauro Icardi at 20 goals.

Berahino at 18 goals.

Lacazette has 27 goals.

Dybala would be quality playing as a CF here.

How many of those strikers' goal tallies have been bloated by the shitty Europa League though? Lukaku and Kane, for sure.

Kane has 10 goals between the Europa League and League Cup, I know they all count but..

16 league goals in 24 games is pretty good in it's own right though, particualrly when compared to £28m man Lukaku's 7 in 28 games.

Lukaku is having his worst season though. He is a quality striker, and I reckon he will soon be back to more than decent figures.

No reason why he can't get back to his 'decent figures' but he's not even close to being a quality player and he's got a long, long way to go before he gets there, if he ever gets there.

I think 50 goals in the PL at the age of 22 or something indicates he is a quality player. I am not saying I'm right, but I have always thought there is something about Lukaku.

He just has monster physique and developed early. He's ahead of the curve in that sense, but there's been little improvement to his game otherwise in terms of touch and perception. People wouldn't be as excited if he played like this as a 25 year old.

He's hugely underrate here. If he'd scored those 50 goals in the Bundesliga or Seria A he'd be the player every pseudo football hipster on this form was calling out for us to sign.

I'd have taken him over Giroud myself when Chelsea kept pimping him out. Two years of working in our system and our pass oriented training sessions would have done him a world of good.

There's something about him and it's that he's insanely quick and strong. The rest of his game leaves a lot to be desired. He might develop but right now is lacking. Basically what Klaus said.

Touch is inconsistent but he certainly has a big future imo, he's only 21 ffs.

Depends on what you think 'big' is. Yakubu had a big career too. And Heskey. And Kevin Philips. It's all relative. Lukaku could play on Premier League level for another decade, and that puts him in the upper 5% of all footballers on the planet. I don't think he'll ever be a star for a top club though.

Don't think he's clever enough to develop much beyond what he is.

Speaking of future world class strikers, has anyone watched Domenico Berardi? I would sign that kid in a heartbeat if I could. He's maybe had a little more difficult second season in Serie A, but at 20 he looks like pretty much the complete package. Fucking Juventus have to own him of course.

Who you'd take over Giroud is a bloody long list though. 😆
