  • Best PL manager not named Mourinho, Wenger, LvG and Pellegrini?

I've always taken an interest in manger's performances outside the usual big clubs.

I have not included Rodger's in the thread title as I honestly don't believe he is worth his hype. I'm not a big fan of Pellgrini either but to be fair he won the title last season so has to be included.

So who do you guys rate outside the top dogs?

If I could put a top 3 of the 'best of the rest' it would be:

1) Tony Pulis
2) Pocentino
3) Ronald Koeman

There is hardly anything separating the the last two but Pulis stands alone for me pound for pound.

He single handley kept Palace up last season when they were all but doomed and WBA look like a different club already since he became their gaffer.

I'd go with Pulis and Allardyce for more limited teams, and Rodgers and Pochettino for better teams. Koeman hasn't been here long enough, and Martinez hasn't had a great 2nd season at Everton, but both of them would be in the running too.

Overall I'd actually go with Rodgers tbh. Yeah he struck lucky with Suarez but he's a promising manager and has gotten teams of varying quality to play good football.

when fat sam isn't attacking wenger, he's probably my fav.

Good point Irish Gunner, I completely forgot about Martinez!

This time last year he would prob been on everyone's list as best manager outside the top 4.

Without going off topic on my own topic but when I think about it Wenger is prob the best manger in the league after Mourinho. Never though I would say that a couple of years ago (when you had the likes of Fergie, Benitez etc ahead of him).

@quincy. Why not? LvG is a world renowned manager. If he can't get into a list of elite coaches in our league then no one can!

We used to hate Pulls. But he's done well in this league. Shocked when he left palace.

I voted for Koeman based on this season. We can't judge him on last season compared to other coaches when he wasn't here.

Voted pulis. Guy has such determination to get the most out of his teams and he usually does. He knows what's important

Vile bloke though

Koeman has done an incredible job. Far less resources than Rodgers, Poccetino, Wenger, etc and yet he's taken a gutted squad whos best players had wanted out and he's in the top 4 ahead off all those other managers after 25 games. No way Pulis or Allerdyce could achieve that. Hughes doesn't even deserve a mention.

Can't be anyone else than Koeman based on his time at Southampton so far. They sold their entire team in the summer, gave him nothing to replace it with and yet they have improved tenfold under him.

Has to be Koeman, although you'd wait and see how he does in his second season. Very surprised to see him do so well in the league, I'd heard good things about him during his last Feyenoord spell but his spell at Valencia was absolutely horrible.

have a lot of respect for Sam nowadays, but he does make himself look like he needs a slap don't he?

Interesting thread. I'm afraid the best of the rest might just be pochettino. Did a very good job at Southampton and after a slow start he has got Tottenham competing with a very shit squad. Thank god he wasn't in charge when the Bale money was around.

Well why is Wenger included then?
O European trophies ever and 1 poxy FA cup in the last 10 years with the one of the richest clubs in the world, he doesn't merit inclusion.
Put him in with Pardew and the rest of the mid table managers where he belongs!

He has more trophies than everyone on that list combined. But you already knew that. 😆

Probably Rodgers for me. Koeman is still too new, remember Laudrup?

I like Rodgers' flexibility with his teams. They are without a striker this year, so he changed to a very unique formation to fit all his best players and recently they have been playing pretty well.

I rate Pardew too.

😆

such a smug bastard! Lad deserved that though.

I'd go with Koeman. His team could finish as high as 2nd, using a quarter of the budget of teams around it. Next would be Rodgers, who did well to keep Liverpool hanging about despite the losses of Sturridge and Cannibal.

Most of the rest are mid table custodians - men who'd pull a Moyes if ever entrusted with furthering Arsenal's fortunes.
